From the Executive Principal,
Our primary method of communication with parents in the case of urgent messaging is through mobile text messaging. We will support this with social media and email. With most families now on QParents we will investigate also providing any notifications through this platform. Please ensure your details are always kept up to date. There will be an opportunity at the Parent Teacher Interviews to provide any changes you may have in this area. Email is important as this is the method to provide academic reports.
In the next week the Parent Teacher Interview portal will open to accept bookings. This is an ideal opportunity to connect with teachers to partner in the learning of your child. I encourage you to book early to secure the spots you require.
This Thursday is the ANZAC day public holiday, Friday is a normal school day with all lessons. From Channel 7 regarding ANZAC Day: “We have a special edition of Sunrise live from Currumbin beach (right near the surf club). We would love to invite your school community to be a part of the show from 7am. We're cooking up a delicious breakfast, there will be some fun performances and lots of chances to get on national TV.”
Best wishes,
Chris Kern

Welcome back to our entire PBC community for Term 2. We hope that you had a restful and enjoyable Easter break with your loved ones. As always, the term ahead promises to be a jam-packed one for our students and families as we work towards the half-way point of the year. We look forward to celebrating success with each family at our upcoming Parent Teacher Interview nights and through our first formal reporting junctures, held across this term.
ANZAC Ceremony
We invite all members of our parent community to the PBC ANZAC Ceremony, to be held in our Quad at 9am on Wednesday 24th April, 2024. We are proud of how our school commemorates such an important day, with all 3000 members of our student and staff body being gathered at once in recognition of our ANZAC's.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Booking information regarding our upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews will be emailed to all parents directly on Monday 29th April. These are to be held across Tuesday May 14th, Wednesday May 15th and Thursday May 16th. Please note that teacher availability is varied and spaces will fill quickly, with most staff teaching over 120 students each. We look forward to seeing as many students and parents as possible for this very valuable opportunity for feedback on progress and results.
Any questions, please contact our SS administration on 55259333.
Academic Reports
- Year 10 and 12 reports will be emailed home in Weeks 3 and 4 of this term
- Year 11 reports will then be emailed home in the week beginning June 3.
- Year 11 students will have their end of Unit 1 assessment coming up in weeks 3 to 5 of this term. It is essential that students meet the satisfactory requirement in Unit 1 in the majority of their subjects so as to meet the completed core component of the QCE. Please visit the following link for more information on the requirements for the QCE:
https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au/your-qce-pathway/about-the-qce
- The Year 11 Exam schedule for week 5 will be published on the school website ( https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment ) in the coming week. This exam schedule is not a shutdown all classes run as per normal and students just attend the library when they have a scheduled exam.
- Year 10 and 12 students will again have assessments scheduled in the last week of this term June 17 to 21.
Other senior schooling news
- A group of Year 12 students completed their First Aid and Safety course on Monday April 22. As this course is structured as 25% of a Certificate 3, these students will attain 2 QCE points. This course will also be offered again in term 3.
- Year 10s and 11s are again encouraged to register for School based traineeships and apprenticeships (SAT) in Y block. A SAT will give students paid employment, work experience and a Certificate 3 qualification which gains extra QCE credits, but also opens up a tertiary pathway. Year 11 students must commence a SAT before July to ensure it is completed by the time they exit school. Please contact Ms Shreeve in Y block for more information.
- Students in Year 10 are again reminded that their academic performance in Year 10 semester 1 will determine which pathway they can choose in Year 11. Students wishing to complete an ATAR pathway need to achieve Bs in English and Maths. Students wishing to study a senior science course in year 11 and 12 also need to achieve a B in Year 10 Science.
TERM ONE SUCCESS
We are happy to report overall a very good set of academic reports went out to families at the end of Term 1.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
If you have not done so already, please take the time to sit with your child and discuss their interim report, emailed at the end of last term. Celebrate successes and where improvements are needed, set some specific, realistic and measurable goals. Should you require clarification or need to immediately discuss your child’s progress, remember that teachers welcome contact from parents; all teachers’ emails are listed under ‘contacts’ on the PBC website.
Parent Teacher Interview bookings are opening soon. Booking information regarding our upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews will be emailed to all parents directly on Monday 29th April. These are to be held across Tuesday May 14th, Wednesday May 15th and Thursday May 16th. The interviews are conducted over several afternoons and evenings, to provide as many opportunities as possible for you to meet with teachers. Students are most welcome to be part of the interviews; it can be very useful for them to ask their own questions and to receive direct feedback from teachers, with you present. Teachers are also hoping to learn more about the student, and will welcome information that will help them support each individual in their learning. We look forward to meeting with you.
WORK EXPERIENCE YEAR 9
All year 9‘s are invited to organise work experience in week 10 of Term 3. This is an opportunity to explore a career of interest and for those interested in school-based apprenticeships and traineeships for senior school can be the start of this relationship. Information packs will be distributed to students at Assemblies and initial paperwork can be returned to student services. The school will then make contact with the employer to finalise the placement.

Goal Setting: 6 Steps to Make the Process Easier and Make You More Productive (Part 1)
To begin, you’ll need to pick a goal. That might seem obvious. But many people fail to achieve their goals. Why? They don’t spend time defining their specific goal(s). To do so, follow steps #1-6:
Step 1: Choose a Priority Goal
During goal setting, people often want to overhaul too many habits at once. For example, start a diet, workout, sleep more and start meditating. All starting January 1st. Pursuing too many goals simultaneously often leads to failure of all goals. Instead, set a priority goal by asking: What is the one goal I can give the necessary time and energy to pursue right now?
Step 2: Pursue a Lofty Goal
Your chosen goal should be ambitious. Simple goals won’t cause sufficient levels of neural arousal and stress to stimulate real growth and learning. Therefore, aim for a lofty goal.
Step 3: Define Specific Actions
While overarching goals like “get fit,” “write a book” or “run more” are helpful to list during brainstorming, you must identify the actions involved in achieving each of these ‘macro’-goals. Break down your desired outcome into specific actions steps to significantly improve your likelihood of achieving your goal. For example, run three times per week.
Step 4: Goal Measurability
Establish a finite time course to complete your goal; I’d suggest a 12-week time period is appropriate for most goals. Within this quarterly timeframe, define:
- Total hours per week
- Specific days
- The length of each goal-oriented work session
- A specific time window (e.g., from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.) or a time constraint (e.g., before 9 a.m.) for the goal-oriented work session
Step 5: Quantify Your Goals
Some goals have easily quantifiable outcomes (e.g., running a marathon in less than a given amount of time). Others are more subjective (e.g., developing a meditation practice). With loosely defined goal outcomes, take extra care. Outline the specific, necessary actions for your plan. For any type of goal, it can also help to designate smaller outcomes along the 12-week journey. They will keep you feeling motivated.
Step 6: Don’t Tell the World!
Have you ever started a goal and wanted to share this news via group text or a social media post? Unfortunately, receiving positive feedback on a newly set goal can undermine your success. This positive encouragement can activate the brain’s reward mechanisms. This reduces your motivation to continue pursuing the goal. You already got the reward without the hard work. So, when you start a goal, it’s usually best to keep this endeavour to yourself. It can also make sharing with friends and family more fun once you’ve hit your first milestone.
