Beginning Term 4, 2019 - Year 12 2020 ‘PBC Steps to Success’ Program

To ensure that our Year 12 2020 students feel prepared and are confident that they will achieve nothing but their best in the new system, all ATAR students studying four ATAR subjects will participate in the PBC ‘Steps to Success’ Program. The introductory session will commence on Tuesday 8 October (Period 2). Beginning Wednesday 9 October (8.00–8.45am), students will rotate through a variety of learning sessions focusing on goal setting, time-management, self-efficacy, health and assessment preparation. Like the QCS Program of previous years, students attending the ‘PBC Steps to Success Program’ will not need to attend sport classes of a Wednesday afternoon.  For further information, including a program description and timetable please follow the ‘Year 12 PBC Steps to Success’ webpage link.

We are also holding a family information session – details as follows:

Senior Schooling

  • Year 10 and 12 students have completed their assessment and have actively commenced Term 4 work. Students need to ensure that they are attending up to and including Friday 20 September.
  • Shutdown commences for Year 11 students this week from 10 Monday 16 September to Friday 20 September.
  • The Year 11 exam timetable has been published for students on the student drive at school and is also available on the school website under curriculum/testing and assessment (https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment) Please ensure that your student has checked this and knows the date, time and room of all their exams.
  • Moving forward Year 11 students will commence the summative units for ATAR in term 4 of this year and will have their first assessment for Unit 3 in the last week of Term 4. This will be a full shutdown in the week of 25 to 29 November .
  • In 2020 Year 12 and Year 10 students will have their exams and assessment due in the last week of each term (Week 10).
  • A reminder that all Year 11 students must have passed a Unit of English and Maths by the end of Unit 2. Students that do not meet this requirement will have to complete a VET certificate that meets the requirements of the QCE. This course will have a cost of $250.

Assessment Policy

Students are reminded that they must apply for an extension or change of date with the relevant Head of Department if they are going to miss assessment. They will not be allowed to sit an exam before the rest of the cohort. Going on holidays before the end of term does not constitute a valid reason for an extension/change of assessment date. Please refer to the school assessment policy on the school website for more information and for copies of the application for extension and Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments form ( https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment ).

All 11 and 12 students are again reminded that they are expected to be passing at least 5 of their 6 classes to demonstrate that they are “actively engaged in learning “at school. Students must remain QCE eligible to stay enrolled; as such all students should be busy revising, studying and completing assessment tasks at the moment.

Preparing Year 12 Graduates

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training is offering a notification service to Year 12 graduates after they have left school. This service will broadcast information on job opportunities, training & employment programs and vocational information updates to students. Students need to register their interest in this service with Ms Shreeve in Y block.

Students interested in apprenticeships are also encouraged to contact Busy at Work as they will help to provide a connection service for apprentices and employers. Contact details are www.apprenticeshipcentral.com.au or 13 BUSY (132879).

Diploma of Business

Current Year 11 students have the opportunity to enrol into the Diploma of Business course beginning at the start of term 4. The Diploma of Business will replace one of their subjects and provides opportunities for students to gain a qualification whilst still at school. The Diploma of Business is also an alternate pathway into university and further study. The cost of the course is $1990 and there are payment plans available. Students need to register their interest through Mr McDougall or Miss McQueen. Please see flyer for more information.
