Creative Generation 2019

The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Instrumental Music (MOST) is a biennial event offering a residential extension program for up to 81 Musically Outstanding Students (MOST) from Queensland State Secondary Schools. The MOST program extends musically gifted and talented students in a 10-day program of musical development in large and small ensembles, tutorial groups, aural musicianship and a range of music and cultural activities. Conductors and tutors are eminent musicians who are recognized as leaders in their respective fields.

The 10-day program culminated in an exhilarating gala concert featuring the 2019 MOST students performing alongside professional conductors in a range of ensembles including the symphony orchestra, big band, string orchestra and symphonic winds. Kayla Latter and Loren Skyring attended the MOST Gala concert during the school holidays to watch and support Regan Hickey who was selected as the Bass Guitar player and percussionist, he did our school proud and it was a real treat to see Regan represent our school alongside other exceptionally musically talented students across the State.

Creative Generation Choral Fanfare

We recently competed in the Creative Generation Choral Fanfare. The group received Gold in the first round and were invited to compete in the regional finals. At the end of last term we competed in the finals and received Best Performing Choir in the South East Region. Unfortunately, our region wasn’t selected to compete in State Finals (top 5 schools in the state), but the students involved were ecstatic about the achievement as it’s our first time competing in this biennial event.

Voices in Paradise

Voices in Paradise is the Gold Coast a cappella revolution and an initiative between The Blenders Chorus and Griffith University and is known to attract the largest a cappella audiences in all of Queensland. This youth development event is a workshop and concert combined into one day of quality education and world class performances by the best Australia has to offer. PBC Vocal students participated in the all-day singing workshop at Griffith University during the holidays. They were trained by world renowned educators like the Velvetones (National A Capella champions) and after a hard day’s work students showcased their final product for the community of a cappella lovers at The Arts Centre Gold Coast for a one night only concert. Thank you to Krissy Tassone for organizing this event the students had a great day and night.

Working Musicians Program

PBC students enrolled in the Working Musicians Program debuted their original material at their very first collaborative Gig Night at Dust Temple on Friday, 21 June. The night was a huge success, with a sold out audience and awesome atmosphere of support for live, independent music. Feedback from the venue, the local music industry, as well as students, parents and the school community has been positive and supportive of the opportunities offered by this program. For the remainder of the year, the focus of the program will be recording/production and independent release, so you will surely be hearing more from these PBC Working Musicians. Thanks to all staff who attended the evening to support our talented students and many thanks to Eliza Davidson with the support of Loren Skyring for making this evening happen.
