Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Capra_Chris_Copy_.jpgOur House and Care initiatives continue to facilitate improvement in student behaviour across the school. Coming up this week we have Inter-house Basketball free-throw competitions and PBC’s Got Talent. The much anticipated annual Staff v Students events that include various sports matches and the Great Debate start in the next few weeks.
Gratitude is the focus for Term 3 in Care lessons and the Optima Awards assemblies for Semester 1 begin next week.  We would like to think that our House and Care initiatives have assisted the school to decrease the number of School Disciplinary Absences (suspensions) by over 30% in the past two years and increased the number of students who state in the school opinion survey “That this is a good school”.

The Library Plus building work continues and the expected completion date for this $12m+ project is on track for October. Whilst the majority of the classrooms will be commissioned for 2020, we anticipate having students in the new library by October.

Late last term the school was also informed that our submission for a new Canteen had been successful.  Commencing in mid-November the existing canteen in F Block will be demolished and new one installed.  The new canteen will have more service points to speed up the pace of transactions and reduce wait times for the students.  The canteen also will reduce food handling and allow for more item sale space.  The new canteen is due to be operational on 28 January 2020, which is the first school day next year.

The school will be adding Girls Shorts to the uniform range available for next year.  Currently we have a unisex shorts option available to the girls.  After visiting and speaking with 120+ female students last week, I have taken the feedback back to our convenor and asked for our supplier to come up with a viable option for 2020.

Finally, it was great to see our neighbouring primary school instrumental music students’ visit on Monday for the Music Celebration Festival.  PBC will hold Jazz Night on Wednesday 7 August, another wonderful Performing Arts opportunity that includes performances from Laurence Hobgood and Rhiannon, PBC Stage Band 1 and 2 plus the Liam Butler Duo all while enjoying a delicious meal prepared by our amazing hospitality students and staff.

Regards,

Chris Capra, Executive Principal
