Touch Excellence

ALL SCHOOLS TOUCH 2022

PBC had 3 teams entered into the 40th instalment of the Queensland All Schools Touch Tournament this year.  Run over 5 days and with over 450 teams and 6000 players competing it is the largest competition of its type in the world. With increasing numbers of schools implementing touch excellence programs it makes for a very gruelling competition to come out on top.

The U13 girls blazed trough the pool stage undefeated winning all 6 games scoring 35 tries for and only 2 against to progress through to the finals day.  In their final 16 game they notched up an impressive 6-1 win against Chancellor College. In the quarter final they met a very strong All Hallows team and despite putting in a great performance they were narrowly defeated 3-2 to knock them out of the tournament. To finish in the top 8 in the state in their first All Schools was a fabulous achievement. Once again we were also very lucky to have former PBC graduate, Teagan Phillips, coach the U13 team. She did an incredible job mentoring the young girls and providing a fabulous experience for them.

The U15 Girls also dominated the teams in their pool going through to the finals undefeated amassing an impressive +68 points differential. On the finals day they went on a giant killing run all the way through to the Grand Final beating Keebra Park 3-1, Cavendish Road 4-3, and Emmaus College 7-2. The Grand Final was a cracking contest against a very strong Cleveland SHS team. With scores locked at 2 all with 10 minutes to play PBC eventually got on top scoring 2 more tries to become All Schools Champions for the first time ever in this age group. In what was a great team effort Evie Clarkson was a standout and was named player of the match. A huge thankyou to Belinda McCormack for giving up her time and helping out coaching the team whilst she is on maternity leave. She has built this team from Year 7 and it was great to see her enjoy the spoils of a well-deserved victory.

The Open Girls had a successful carnival once again topping their pool in the prelim games also going through undefeated. On finals day in the Round of 16 they accounted for Rockhampton Girls Grammar 7-nil to move into the quarter-finals. There they met eventual Grand Finalists Chancellor College and unfortunately bowed out of the competition with their first loss of the tournament. With the calibre of teams’ playing in the carnival it was certainly a great achievement to make the top 8 in the state.

All teams represented the Reds with distinction with a never say die attitude across all games. The strength of PBC touch continues to improve and we look forward to pushing for more titles in the future.
