Sports Excellence News

AFLQ Grand Final Facilities Fund

IMG_2652.JPG

The improvement in PBC’s sporting infrastructure continues. First the tennis centre upgrade, then the start of works on the new multi purpose sports centre and now the installation of AFL goal posts and netting.

A massive shout out to Leesa Monaghan from AFL Queensland and the Queensland State Government for funding this project through the AFLQ Grand Final facilities fund. The new posts provide the sports excellence program with much needed training resources as well as providing the PBC JAFC with additional oval space to cater for the growth in their participation numbers.

It has been wonderful to see all the Sherrins flying around at lunch time and students kicking bananas, torps and Daicos specials.

Rugby League Excellence

There was nothing ‘B’ grade about the PBC Langer Reserves Rugby League performance, in the Grand Final against Marsden SHS!

The Reds had a near perfect first half, scoring four unanswered tries and captain Jakeem Thompson bagging a hattrick himself!

The second half Marsden sustained a lot of pressure and managed to score three tries of their own. However, the Reds defended valiantly and held their resolve to win the game 22-16. It was an outstanding team performance and a great result for this Year 11/12 group that has worked very hard in 2022.

Congratulations!

South Coast Regional Track and Field

After a forced hiatus of 2 years, the annual South Coast Regional Athletics carnival was held at a new venue for the Coast, the Runaway Bay Sports Centre Track.

On two very windy days where sprint times were, to say the least, fast!, PBC athletes proved, once again, to be a very competitive and proud ambassadors of the Reds.

There were numerous PB’s from competitors who unfortunately did not qualify for State as well as the many Regional Champions and medallists, with an exciting number selected to represent South Coast at the forthcoming State Titles in Brisbane in mid October.

Those selected were: Thewbelle Philp (14G 100m and 200m); Minka Tukino (14G 100m and 200m); Zeke Zimmerle (14B 100m); Lily McClure (17G 100m and 200m); Eva Pietraskaviszc (17G 100m); Olivia Hooper (16G 100m Hurdles); Taj Murray (13B 800m and 1500m); Bobby Kennedy-Flegler (13B 800m and 1500m); Sienna Bush (14G 800m and 1500m); Savannah Bush (13G 1500m); Maddy McPherson (13G 1500m); Ethan Gray (18B 800m, 1500m and 5000m); Max Chislett (17B 1500m); Sienna Clare (14G 3000m and Pole Vault); Will Mann (16B TJ and LJ); Charlotte Hart (16G 800m, 1500m and 3000m); Lilian Behan (18G Discus).

It is worth noting that 6 of the PBC athletes had only just returned from Adelaide representing Queensland at the National Cross Country Championships including Sienna Bush who was crowned National Champion, on top of her National 800m title from March! Charlotte Hart competed at the National Triathlon Titles during the Regional carnival and was placed second in her age group! A very talented group!!

Our very best wishes to all the athletes at the State Titles in October.
