Griffith On-Campus Experience

On 10 August, Year 11 and 12 students had the privilege of attending a wonderful university on-campus experience at Griffith University. The day started with a leadership workshop and team building activities, enabling us to think outside the box and strategize efficiently. After the leadership workshop we were given the opportunity to engage in a Q&A and ask any relevant questions regarding our future pathways. We were very grateful that after the workshops, Griffith provided us with a delicious lunch which we enjoyed whilst viewing the scenery of the campus. Following this, we delved deep into learning and visited the state-of-the-art science labs for some interesting experiments on sunscreen. To end the day, we had the honour of participating in a seminar with Doctor Harry, an inspiring teacher of teachers! He engaged us regarding the world of teaching, leaving us with many reasons to consider teaching as a career path. Everyone involved was extremely friendly and hospitable, making our day at Griffith highly welcoming and enjoyable.

Netball – Vicki Wilson Shield

IMG_7472.JPG

Earlier this year, the Junior girls netball excellence entered two teams into the Vicki Wilson qualifiers competition, one of which made it through to the Vicki Wilson Final Championship held in Nissan Arena, Brisbane. For weeks the girls trained hard to achieve their goal of taking out the Championship. The team started off the first day of competition blistering and ready to compete, winning all games but one. This meant that the girls qualified for the finals, top 8 in Queensland. The girls played the first game of the second day with high stakes to make the semi-finals and steal an opportunity to the grand finale. After a long hard game with injuries and more, the girls came out on top, making it to the semi-finals. This declares the team top 4 in Queensland, an outstanding achievement in itself. The next game consisted of a team that the girls have never beaten, and the nerves had taken over. Unfortunately, the girls lost this game as well as their chance at the grand final. Lastly to conclude the competition the team played off for 3rd and 4th, finishing in the fourth spot. It was an amazing competition for our netball girls, and they played some of the toughest netball many of the girls had ever played. The team showed courage, strength, and integrity and displayed what it means to be a red not only on court but off court as well.
