Female Rugby League – Karyn Murphy Cup

On Wednesday 19 June, the Year 7/8 female rugby league team competed in the Plate Grand Final at the Karyn Murphy Cup. This was the culmination of 9 weeks of Wednesday night games at Helensvale Hornets Rugby League Club. The girls, as always, played hard and came away with a 5 try to 1 victory against Keebra Park. Congratulations to the team on their commitment and focus this year. Go Reds!

Sport - Zookeepker Program

Students participate in the Zookeeper Program during Wednesday afternoon sport. This term students were challenged to design, make and present their own edible animal enclosure. Students were given the parameters of accessibility, information, view and customer satisfaction. Check out some of their results in these photos.

PBC Leo's

PBC Leos have recently participated in The Relay for life at Miami High School oval on 11 May 2019. The Leo’s did 300 laps and donated $1000 to the Cancer Council. The Cancer Council is Australia’s leading cancer charity working across every aspect of every cancer. The event went from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm and there were 25 teams in total. Over the past seven years, relayers in Australia have raised over $137,500,000 and that money has helped so many people. It is Relay For Life’s mission to beat cancer. As a community-funded organisation, they rely on the generosity of thousands of donors, fundraisers and volunteers to fund their much-needed research and programs. Through the funds raised at Relay For Life, more than 61,000 Australian lives have been saved over the last 20 years. Improvements in cancer prevention and screening mean that fewer people will hear the words, “you have cancer”. Advances to cancer treatments allow cancer patients to spend more time with their loved ones. All the amazing supporters have played a huge part in this, and by continuing to take part in Relay For Life we will save more lives.

Attendance – Parent notification reminder

Full day absence

In 2019 we have changed the parent notification for full day absences. Parents/caregivers must notify the school and provide an explanation of a student absence by 9:00am on the day of the absence.  You are only required to use ONE notification method.

The priority for notification is:

  1. Text Message – 0447 100 239 – provide student name, date and reason for absence OR
  2. Email – absences@pbc-shs.eq.edu.au – provide student name, date and reason for absence

Text messages are sent out to parents at 10:00am to notify you of an unexplained absence. If you receive a text message, please reply to the message, providing the student name and reason for absence.

Keeping our school safe

Students’ safety and wellbeing at PBC will always be our highest priority, allowing students to thrive within our school community. We continue to engage the services of anonymous platform Stymie (www.stymie.com.au). Stymie is a completely anonymous website where students, parents and community members can report concerns of harm or potential harm to members of our community. We have had great success with Stymie being a part of our Behaviour Management Policy on a range of matters that place our students at risk.

Car parking

The Aquatic Centre next to PBC is experiencing significant issues with customer parking being utilised by people attending or visiting PBC High School. The Aquatic Centre has recently had all the regulated signage in the carpark upgraded and will also be having the yellow lines re-painted shortly. It’s highly likely that City Parking will be stepping up patrols in the local area in support of these upgrades. We wish to remind everyone that this carpark is 2 hour parking limit.
