Executive Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Sgalippa_Anita.jpgWelcome back for Term 3.

Thanks you for taking the time to read our newsletter.

It’s with great pleasure that I have accepted the offer to lead the team at PBC. After 14 years at PBC it will be interesting to experience some different aspects of leadership here at the school.

On Tuesday 5 July, Minister Grace Grace visited the school to officially launch the construction of the Sports Excellence Precinct.  In addition, the Minister announced the $600,000 refurbishment of the C Block toilets. We would like to thank a number of staff and student leaders who dropped everything to make this happen. The visit wouldn’t have been as successful as it was without Mitch Kennedy coordinating the Student Leaders and Bernie Sargent and Jo Sexton coming in to cater for the event.  John Lacey coordinating access to and security of the grounds, Heidi Wallace had just come back from Cairns, yet still drove up from M’Bar to coordinate the media and Dean Miller worked in the rain to ensure that the school was looking good. Our P&C executive came along to support and Neil Mackay was able to brief the Minister about his passion project of the last decade coming to life at long last. Physical construction work on the Sports Precinct will commence in about six to eight weeks.

As well as the works on a new Sport Hall on the far side of our oval commencing this term, we will also hold our final special event for our 50 years with 'Reminiscing - celebrating 50 years of the Arts at PBC'. Ths event will be on Saturday 3 September, 4:00-7:00pm. Please save the date and come along to what is sure to be a remarkable and entertaining night.

Our first week highlight was our whole school community celebrating NAIDOC week. One of only three times that we gather together as a whole school and squeeze into our Quad area. Thank you to all who created the program of events and also thank you to the staff who support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and their culture at our school on a weekly basis.

I hope this newsletter finds you feeling proud to be a part of the PBC community and better connected to what is happening.
