Track & Field News
The following students competed in the QLD State Champs on the weekend and qualified to represent QLD at the National Track & Field Championships in Sydney in 2 weeks time. Jye Gillard 400m (ex PBC), Starr Scott 800m/1500m, Ethan Gray 3000m, Mackenzey Ormiston (3000m) and Tayler Moryta 800m.
Jye actually won the U20 400m race coming away with another State Gold Medal!
The Hon Karen Andrews MP Visits PBC
On Friday 8 March, as part of International Women's Day celebrations, PBC was delighted to welcome the Hon Karen Andrews MP, Minister for Industry, Science and Technology for a visit. Ms Andrews was able to tour our brand new science lab and meet with a group of STEM students to discuss their attitudes to STEM and what the future holds for women in STEM studies and careers. It was a very enjoyable morning for all the girls involved and we thank Ms Andrews for taking the time to come and visit.
Instrumental Music News
We are proud to announce that the Working Musicians Program is in full swing. Students are currently exploring the art of songwriting and were joined last Tuesday afternoon by an established song writer and performer, Tully Davidson. Students gained valuable insight into the writing process, were able to ask questions, as well as seek feedback on their original material. A very big thank you to all who were involved.
Community Reception with the Govenor of QLD
Last week our two School Captains, Abi Houston and Toby Mayes together with Executive Principal Chris Capra, were invited to attend a Community Reception acknowledging the ongoing success of the Gold Coast region, at the Surfers Paradise Marriott. While there they met with the Governor of Queensland, his Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC and Mrs de Jersey who hosted the event.
