Executive Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Capra_Chris_Copy_.jpgThe last two weeks have been exceptionally busy with exams and end of term assessments for all the year levels.  In the lead up to the assessment period we had some outstanding sporting success with the Junior Netball team winning the state titles.  Well done to Ms Kundrus-Little and the team.  In a rare sporting opportunity, the Qld State of Origin Women’s Team trained in an opposed session here at PBC last Monday against the Open Boy’s League Team.  I am aware that a number of the soccer and AFL teams are also having fantastic seasons I am sure that as finals approach, they will be ready to do their best.

A number of our students are regularly not taking their bus pass, Go Card or have a ticket to travel on the bus.  The GCCC, Translink and Surfside Buses have informed the school that the practice of students catching a bus without the proper ticket / pass can see students being subjected to a fine.  It is my belief that ticket inspectors are about to be placed more regularly on school bus routes.

School returns on Monday 15 July after the winter holidays.  Classes recommence at 9:05am on the Monday for all students.

Vale Deb Reid

Reid_Deborah_Copy_.jpgDeb Reid, School Canteen Convenor passed away late on Sunday 16 June after a year long battle with cancer.  Deb was a proud mother to two sons, Brian and Michael as well as a loving wife to Gavin.  Deb was so much more than a canteen convenor.  Deb was our chief of smiles / chief chef and looked after the well-being of all staff, but especially the waist lines of the HPE teachers.

Deb came to PBC as the immediate former Executive Chef of Salt, Mantra at Kingscliff.  Deb revolutionised a tired school tuckshop of pre-packaged foods towards a fresher food range as selected by the students.  Enchilada Day became famous under her leadership and soon our lines for service grew.  Deb pioneered such foods as acai bowls, burritos and spinach and ricotta rolls.

Deb loved her staff and led them from the front, never asking her staff to do something that she herself wouldn’t do. She had high expectations of her team and herself to deliver the best possible menu and quality food for the students and staff.  Deb had a great deal of pride in her work and was always wanting to ensure that PBC was seen in the best possible light by the community.

Deb and her staff created the first wave of event catering at PBC. The canteen staff commenced catering for the PBC Alliance, PBC AFL Club and Chaplain’s Dinner a few years ago. As an Executive Chef, together with the Hospitality Teachers, Deb commenced the transition to the hospitality students catering for an event in its entirety through empowering the school students.

Deb will be missed by the school community.

Regards,

Chris Capra
