PBC is turning 50!

GALA_DAY_Flyer.png

Our school is turning 50 in 2022 and we are celebrating with the Ultimate Reunion PBC Gala Day and Sunset Soiree. We hope you can come along with the family to enjoy a walk through time. Students will love to come and see what the PBC of the past was like and how we have stayed the same but also changed so much.

There will be food trucks, student entertainment, self-guided tours, classrooms on display as well as some amazing memorabilia from all the decades past on display. Our faculties will also give a glimps of times gone by and where we are today.

Be sure to put Saturday 11 June, 3-5pm in the diary for the Gala Day.

If you are a PBC alumni you will want to come along to our Ultimate Reunion Sunset Soiree. Alumni, past and present staff and friends and supporters are all invited to attend the part of the half century! To be held immediately after the gala day from 5-8pm in our Creekview Room in our new Library precinct. Tickets are just $30 (plus booking fee) and include canapes and a drink on arrival. Drinks can be purchased on the night.

Buy tickets here.

We look forward to seeing you there.

On Saturday 28 May, Keith Woods of the Gold Coast Bulleting published a great article covering PBC's story. Read it here:

Creative Generation GOMA Exhibition

The opening of Creative Generation at GOMA on 28 May.  PBC has three works from last year’s cohort hanging in the Gallery of Modern Art; These are by Ryan Thwaite, Allie Baldwin and Gabriella Kilgariff

In addition to the absolutely fantastic feat of having three students representing PBC, Allie’s work won the Sponsor’s Choice Award.

Year 12 Trivia Night

Wednesday 18 May saw the Year 12's take on Trivia Night!

From Grandma's to T-Rex’s, Year 12’s went all out in their team’s costuming.

The night was hosted by Mr Johnstone and Mr Patison, which saw students up on the dance floor, taking part in the limbo comp, and most importantly easing students’ competitive sides in trivia Kahoot!

Trivia enthusiasts were on the edge of their seats during the raffle announcements, thanks to Grip Star Socks, Snap Fitness Palm Beach, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Annabel Trends, Palm Beach Surf Club and Meatsmiths! who all donated prizes to support our school charity.

Overall, a great night had by all and thanks for a great turnout Year 12’s!

Jersey Day

IMG_0574.JPG

On Friday 3 June, PBC held a free dress day themed 'Jersey Day.' Organised by the student council, the idea originated to support 'You Choose', which is an organisation with a mission to change driving habits. At the start of the year, You Choose founders Melissa and Peter McGuinness visited PBC and did a thought-provoking presentation detailing the choices of their 18-year-old son, Jordan, a PBC alumni who was speeding whilst under the influence of alcohol and drugs (in 2012). He drove his car into a stationary vehicle, tragically killing five young victims including himself. During the presentation, Melissa wore his year 12 senior jersey, resulting in us calling the event, 'Jersey Day'.

Students wore free dress and brought a gold coin donation to support the organisation and were encouraged to wear a jersey of their choice. The day was a huge success, and $1455.55 was raised overall. We are so glad that we could support You Choose. The impact of the presentation has made us consider that our actions can protect ourselves, our families and our communities from the preventable misery of road youth trauma.

ATSIAP Challenge - Senior Secondary Division

Four of our Aboriginal students competed in an academic challenge arranged through the Department of Education. The students had to compose a poem, a speech and an artwork based on this year's NAIDOC theme, "Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up!". The students consulted with a Community Elder, Aunty Joyce Summers, and decided to focus on the Stolen Generation.

Shaylee Borg, Tayah Chilcott, Bryony Luppi and Will Mann (all Year 10) entered the senior division against other Year 10, 11 and 12 students from the region. They worked hard under pressure to complete these tasks and were awarded 2nd place. We are now off to a 2-day event and competition at the University of Queensland to compete against other teams from all over the state.

Well done to these students and we wish them the best at the State Final.
