The Arts and Creative Arts Excellence News

Dance Excellence

Dance Excellence students and teachers have had a busy two days spent at Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod recently. On 6-7 May, PBC travelled to the Events Centre, Caloundra to compete in the dance competition for the first time. Students were able to watch and learn from other schools in the district and we are thrilled to be awarded a place for every entry. The competition was tough and there were up to 25 entries in each section.

PBC entered seven dances in total and the results were as followed –

Year 7 Dance Excellence – Contemporary – 1st Place

Year 8 Dance Excellence – Jazz – 2nd Place

Year 11/12 Dance Excellence – Jazz – 4th Place

Super Team  – Jazz – 2nd place

Year 9/10 Dance Excellence – Lyrical – Highly Commended

Year 11/12 Dance Excellence – Lyrical – 3rd Place

Super Team – Lyrical – 2nd Place

Drama

Year 11 and 12 Drama and Drama Excellence students will attend HOTA to see the transformational performance of the Greek Epic Drama, ‘Medea’ this week. Staff were able to see a preview of the work, which reflected the creative and textual nuances that Shock Therapy Productions developed to relate to a contemporary teenage audience that embodied both the epic historical genre, whilst marrying with a context relatable to the life of our Gold Coast students. This is particularly pertinent to the student’s assessment for Term 2.

Instrumental Music

37 students travelled to Marantha Camp to engage in the Optima Music Camp Week 3. Students thrived with the opportunities of having 2 guest conductors work with them on their performance pieces for Fanfare in Week 7. Most notably Dr Peter Morris from the Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane.

Music Excellence

On Wednesday 4 May, the Music Excellence students had the privilege of attending “Lights, Camera, Action” at the Concert Hall, QPAC in Brisbane.

This annual educational music concert, showcases the power of an orchestra through the language of soundtracks. This year we were very lucky to celebrate with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra celebrating the 90th birthday of the master of music:  John Williams.

The orchestra performed many signature tunes that have endeared John Williams to millions of filmgoers over the years.  Epic fanfares of Star Wars, swirling magic of Harry Potter, adventurous Indiana Jones, celestial ET and many many more.

Visual Art

Artists from Schmick Creations worked with our Visual Art Excellence students to create ideas for our 50th Anniversary Mural. Students were lead through a series of activities in the workshop to create their responses to the stimulus provided. The artists were astounded at the level of creativity and talent from our students. They will return for other Cluster Days to continue to develop ideas for the mural artwork.

Creative Arts Excellence

On Wednesday 4 May, the Creative Arts Excellence students had the pleasure of attending Frozen the musical at Brisbane’s QPAC Lyric Theatre. We started our day with lunch by the river in Southbank and a lovely break in the sunshine before heading off to watch the performance.

The performance was moving, dreamy, and filled with laughter. Our students were awe struck by the visuals and the artists within the performance and their joy was felt by everyone.

To end our day, we spent some time sitting in the grass by the river, chatting and laughing. Student behaviour was exemplary and a true display of the brilliance of our Creative Arts Excellence students. Their gratitude for having this opportunity was evident in their beaming smiles and sheer happiness.
