House and CARE News

Term 2 House & Care so far…

It has been a busy but exciting start to Term 2 in House and Care.

The Care curriculum has allowed students and teachers the opportunity to get to know each other on a deeper level and they have been challenged to show vulnerability in a bid to build connections with peers. Students have explored topics such as kindness (getting to know Kath Koschel), what are our strengths and how do we learn, and who are our heroes and how have they impacted my life. In Week 2 the Care classes from each House with the highest average attendance for Term 1 were rewarded with a Pizza Party as a celebration of student success.

House Competitions have also been heating up this term with the race for the 2022 House Cup the most competitive it has been in recent years! The term started with the annual PBC Cross Country in Week 1 which showcased the many great endurance athletes we have at PBC, but also allowed all students regardless of their ability level an opportunity to get out and be physically active with their friends. Participation was excellent and when all events were run and won it was the Athenians who came out on top. Finishing positions for Cross Country were as follows – 1st Athenians, 2nd Vikings, 3rd Phoenicians, 4th Spartans.

In Week 2 the Interhouse Flip Cup Relay was held in the Hall. This was the first time in PBC history we have held a Flip Cup Relay and the buy-in from students and teachers was great to see! Each house had 15mins to find their top “Cup Flippers” before a final was held between the 4 houses. History was made as the Athenians took out the title as the first ever Flip Cup Champions. Finishing positions for Flip Cup were as follows – 1st Athenians, 2nd Spartans, 3rd Vikings, 4th Phoenicians.

Week 3 saw the first GC5 Cluster Day for the year so there were no House events held that week, however PBC students and teachers ventured all over the Gold Coast participating in both competitive and recreation based activities which saw some great opportunities and results for PBC students.

Week 4 saw the return of a crowd favourite, the PBC annual Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee was held in the Theatre with students working their way through elimination rounds as words became increasingly more difficult. The participation and excitement from students and teachers was outstanding to see and it showcased the valuable connection that staff and students have to their respective Houses. The Phoenicians proved to be brilliant spellers with the final 5 competitors all coming from the Phoenician House! Year 12 student Jett Lindsay was crowned PBC’s Spelling Champ for 2022 and finishing positions were as follows - 1st Phoenicians, 2nd Athenians, 3rd Vikings, 4th Spartans.

Current standings for the House Cup leader board have the Phoenicians on top followed closely by the Athenians, Vikings and then the Spartans. There is still plenty more to come this term with House Assemblies, Interhouse Pictionary, Interhouse Hit the Target and GC5 Cluster Days. We look forward to seeing who will be crowned House Cup Champions for 2022!
