Senior Secondary Update
Thankyou to all parents and senior students who attended our Careers Expo yesterday, a wonderful opportunity to speak to universities, TAFE, Defence Force and other providers who can prepare and foster our students for life after school. Hundreds of students were able to gain more information around entry requirements, scholarships and campus life and are working hard to prepare for what is to come. Well done to all - and thankyou to our Guidance Officer Mr Steve Jones for facilitating these providers and an expo such as this for our students.
As the winter weather starts to encroach, please ensure that all students are in uniform as they arrive to and from school. Students in non-school jumpers, track pants and other outer wear will receive an Afternoon Detention. All uniform items are available at the Uniform Shop - if students have any concerns regarding uniform they should report to their Head of Year in Y Block.
Year 10 school vaccinations (Meningococcal A,C,W &Y) happening soon!
The Gold Coast Public Health’s Immunisation Team will be providing vaccinations to all Year 10 students on Tuesday 7 June. These vaccinations are voluntary and a parent consent form must be completed online for your student to receive the immunisation. No consent = No vaccination.
You should have received an email from admin.immunisegc@health.qld.gov.au to the address you have nominated with the school (please check your junk email folder).
If you haven’t received this email you can contact Gold Coast Public Health’s immunisation team on 1800 940 750 to get the information you need or to ask any questions regarding the vaccination.
Please ensure your student has breakfast of the day of the vaccination.
Your student will be given an aftercare slip which includes information on vaccinations given and what to do in the unlikely event that they experience any reactions.
If your child is absent on the day, you will be sent an email from the immunisation team regarding catch up options.
Please visit: www.goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au/our-services/immunisation for further information or email them at: admin.immuniseGC@health.qld.gov.au or call 1800 940 750.
Assessment
Assessment calendars for Term 2 have been published on the school website and shutdown calendars for Year 10 and 12 will be published on the school website this week. Please note there is no shutdown for Year 11 students at the end of this term.
Year 11
- Report cards will be emailed home in the week commencing 6 June to align with the end of Year 11 Unit 1.
- Year 11 students will have the opportunity to change classes at the end of Unit 1 (week beginning Monday 23 May).
Year 12
- Year 12 students are now completing Unit 4 work and will only have 2 assessments left in each of their subjects. At the end of Year 12 students’ results in Unit 3 and 4 are combined to award an exit grade and for General subjects a numerical value. As such it is imperative that student do not rest on their laurels and remain focussed for the rest of 2022.
Our Assessment Policy
The school’s assessment policy is published on the school website. Note that students need to complete all assessment in a subject to be given a result. If students do not submit an assessment task by 9:00am on the due date then the teacher must use the evidence collected before that date to make a judgement. If the student did not submit a draft this means that the student will not get a result for the subject. This will affect their progress towards the QCE and also their enrolment in post compulsory education.
