Executive Principal's Update

Dear Parents, Caregivers,

Capra_Chris.jpgI would like to thank the record number of parents who engaged with recent face to face parent-teacher interviews.  It was great to see so many parents and students engaging with the formal reporting and feedback process. Outside of parent-teacher night, as issues arise, families are encouraged to contact the class teacher in the first instance to discuss any concerns before they escalate.

On Monday afternoon, the senior students were invited to attend a tertiary education expo held here at school. The top floor of the library was busy with many students taking the opportunity to explore their post-secondary school options. If your child missed he expo, their Head of Year will be able to assist them through providing the necessary school or university contacts.

The PBC Alliance is funding stage 1 of the creation of PBC Productions. Stage 1 is to create a mobile broadcasting system and podcasting studio that will allow students to learn the fundamentals of live broadcasting and multi-camera filming, sound production and editing. This would facilitate students producing content for the promotion of the school, while providing students with training that would help them transition to work or study in the area of film, radio or TV production. The mobile broadcasting equipment and podcasting studio will be a welcome addition to the Creative Arts faculty resources as this growth industry becomes a mainstream educational tool as well as a substantial part of the mainstream media.  The Podcasting studio will supplement the Recording Studio which is in the process of being upgraded.

Vaping continues to be a problem for the school in terms of some students not following the Student Code of Conduct. Whilst each situation will be treated on its merits, as stated last year to the community, students who are using vapes at school, or in school uniform, or known to attend PBC, can expect a suspension of 10 days for a first offence and students who are supplying / sharing / distributing vapes may be suspended for 20 days with a recommendation for exclusion.  Whilst the local police and Department of Health continue to work in restricting the supply of vapes, the students are finding ways to access these harmful devices.
