Senior Secondary Update

Senior School continues to be a busy place and it is a joy to see opportunities which have been COVID-impacted for the past couple of years return to our school calendar. Particularly within the Creative Arts, recent Dance Eisteddfods and the Senior OPTIMA Instrumental Camp have just concluded, with students having these opportunities for the first time in 2 years! It continues to be a joy to watch our students excel in these extra-curricular areas, whilst expertly balancing their athletic and academic commitments also. Thankyou also to all parents and students who took the opportunity to engage in our Parent Teacher Interviews this week - this process is so vital to the experience of every student, so thankyou. As always, should you have any feedback for us as to how we can continue to improve the Parent Teacher Interview process please let us know.

Year 12 Snapshot

Congratulations to all Year 12 students given the release of their Unit 3 reports, emailed home last week. It is expected that all ATAR-eligible students will be able to have a 1-on-1 with a senior staff member to analyse their ATAR prediction by Week 6 of this term. Likewise, students at risk of not attaining a QCE by the end of this year will be contacted by a member of the Senior Schooling team to provide support.

Please be aware that Year 12 students will have a full exam shutdown in Week 10 of this term. Please be sure to keep this time interruption-free.

Year 11

Year 11 students will have their end of Unit 1 assessment coming up in weeks 3 to 5 of this term. The exam timetable for Year 11 exams in week 5 has been finalised and will be published on the school website and student notices: https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment

Year 11 students will have the opportunity to change classes at the end of Unit 1 (week beginning Monday 23 May).

Year 10

Year 10 Term 1 reports were sent home last week. These results will be combined with Term 2 assessment to finalise the Year 10 Semester 1 report. Year 10 Term 2 assessment will be finalised in the last week of this term.

Students in Year 10 are again reminded that their academic performance in Year 10 Semester 1 will determine which pathway they can choose in Year 11. Students wishing to complete an ATAR pathway need to achieve Bs in English and Maths. Students wishing to study a senior science course in Year 11 and 12 also need to achieve a B in Year 10 Science.

Other senior schooling news:

  • Year 10s and 11s are again encouraged to register for School based traineeships and apprenticeships (SAT) in Y block. A SAT will give students paid employment, work experience and a Certificate 3 qualification which gains extra QCE credits, but also opens up a tertiary pathway. Please contact Ms Shreeve in Y block for more information.
  • Students completing VET courses need to ensure that they are up to date in their competencies as completion of the course is generally required to attain the QCE.
  • A group of Year 12 students recently completed their First Aid and Safety course. Another course has been scheduled for August. This is a very useful qualification and all students that have not completed these qualifications are encouraged to complete the course. This course has a cost of $75 and will attain 2 QCE points (this may decrease pressure on student leading into external exams). Students can register by contacting Ms Golding in the library (jgold61@eq.edu.au ).
