Junior Secondary Update

Week 10 new units will commence

This term has been problematic for students and teachers in terms of getting into routines. Between now and the end of term we will work hard to maximise the learning time that we have remaining. Whilst some assessment will be delayed our aim will be to complete assessment and then move into the next unit straight away. Week 10 will be a normal school week and as such I would ask families to plan for their child to be in attendance as most classes will be starting new work.

Term 1 Reports Delayed

Student reports will be emailed home on 22 April 2022. Some adjustments have been made to assessment due dates due to days lost due to extreme weather school closures.

Please ensure that the email address we have recorded for you is current.

Term 1 reports are interim reports. This means that they will indicate a child’s Term 1 achievement, effort and behaviour in each subject with grades only. We encourage you to follow up on this report by attending Parent Teacher Interviews in Term 2. Information about how to book for Parent Teacher Interviews will be sent with reports.

NAPLAN 2022

At this stage, PBC will be participating in NAPLAN online this year. Tests will be conducted beginning in next term for Years 7 and 9. The online format is interesting in that it will be adaptive and will cater to the diverse levels that students are at based on their responses to early questions on the tests.

We encourage all students to be part of NAPLAN, and we make special provisions for students with disabilities. If your child requires adjustments then please contact Jane Bell HOD Inclusion via email jebel0@eq.edu.au. PBC teachers frequently use NAPLAN data to make decisions about differentiation and targeted teaching in the classroom so knowing where each child is currently at in terms of their literacy and numeracy is very important to our planning. A standardised test like NAPLAN is a great tool to help us.

Work Experience Year 9

Year 9 work experience has moved to Term 3 Week 10. Information packs will be issues to students late this term at assemblies. Families need to find their own placement so it’s a good idea to start thinking about this now.
