At a recent conference, we were informed that Price Waterhouse Coopers is one of the largest employers of high school graduates in the world.  PWC prefers to train their staff with the necessary skills and technical abilities (in six weeks) rather than having aspiring employees attend university (for three years).  It was interesting that academic achievement whilst valuable to PWC was not the main criteria for employment.  PWC was looking for behaviour, effort and interpersonal skills as the main criteria for employment. In addition, PWC are looking for the interpersonal skills within the context of, team work, problem solving, creativity and communicating ideas. The one test that prospective employees sit is based on aptitude regarding interpersonal ability. What were described as soft skills in the last generation is becoming the main currency for employment in the next generation. Part of our House and Care initiative is to have our students enhancing their communication and interpersonal skills each and every day in a variety of settings that might not be possible in other classes.
