Executive Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Capra_Chris.JPGFriday Night witnessed a spectacular event in the form of Dance Night. It was great to see the students able to exhibit their skills in front of a large audience at HOTA.  After a year of disrupted rehearsals and uncertainty about the possibility of public performances, our students and staff delivered a brilliant night of polished performances. Well done to the students and staff who have worked hard in the lead up to this event. We were delighted to receive some wonderful feedback this morning on the night from Mr and Mrs Garner.

To Whom it May Concern

On Friday night, we attended the Dance Night for Palm Beach Currumbin State High at HOTA.  I cannot find enough superlatives to adequately describe how much we enjoyed the night.  Congratulations to everyone who was involved in this fabulous Dance Night.

Our granddaughter, Millie Elliott, is in Year 8  and she is part of this incredible Dance Program at your school so we were thrilled to be invited to attend. Never in my life (I’m 73 and my husband is 79) have we ever witnessed performances so fantastic, moving, extremely powerful and so entertaining.

We moved up from Sydney this year so it was the first time we have attended a PBC Dance Night and it definitely won’t be the last time.  It is a credit to every single performer, their teachers and all the people who made this night such a success. It must have taken so much work and hours and hours of practise to put this show together.

I cannot adequately express the impact each and every dance had on us. The choreography, themes and actual clips were brilliant. It was the most professional night we have been to and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Having lived in Sydney during the time that Victor Chang was murdered in the failed extortion attempt, it was incredibly touching and heartbreaking to see this performance so brilliantly portrayed.  It brought back very vivid and real memories of that very sad time in 1991. To see the film and hear Victor Chang’s actual words on that fateful day left a profound impact on us.

The” September 11” performance was another of those heartbreaking times that was so professionally put together. I’m sure there was not a dry eye in the entire theatre, it was very moving. To hear the actual people talking and the voice of that little girl who lost her Daddy was something I will never forget.

So many of the acts were extremely thought provoking and very powerful. “Grandma’s Hands” was brilliant as was “Waka Waka”, “Ted Bundy”, “Marilyn Monroe”, the one depicting bipolar – so many relevant topics in our society.

We have been to many dance eisteddfods and dance concerts but never have we been to one so brilliantly undertaken with the actual recordings of various people and the movies on the wall as they were being performed, nothing but brilliant!

We just want to thank PBC for a most enjoyable night and one we will never forget. I wish there was a video of them so we could watch them all again. Every performer gave 100% effort and your school has many very talented dancers.

The entire program was brilliant, all 29 items.  The finale was excellent with the photograph of each student shown on the screen.

Please accept our congratulations to all concerned on a fantastic night.

Regards Carol & Stan Garner

With the recent changes to laws regarding Vapes and E Cigarettes, the school last week sent out an update to how it will work with students, who are in possession of / using / dealing, in applying the Student Code of Conduct. The Qld Police Service and Department of Health continue to work with the school in restricting the supply of Vapes and E Cigarettes that our students are accessing. It is important that all parents and caregivers speak with their children about the disciplinary consequences of vaping at school and the health concerns that research is now indicated will occur in teenagers who are vaping (see last week’s letter for health articles).

This week will see a lot of engaging extra-curricular activities for the whole school. Today and tomorrow see the Staff play the Students in Soccer and Touch with Basketball and Netball to follow. Wednesday will see the winning House announced at the House Champion Cup assembly. Anyone who has attended an Optima Assembly will know the excitement that the House competitions generate. Finally, the Year 12s finish their scheduled timetabled classes this Thursday (although they have alternate classes and exams for another five weeks).
