Creative Arts Excellence News

Last Wednesday our Year 9 and 10 Drama Excellence class were extremely grateful to have the opportunity to perform on the prestigious Bille Brown Stage at The Queensland Theatre Company in Brisbane as a part of The Scene Project. Each year a playwright is commissioned to write a new play, and selected schools are tasked with the challenge of creating their own unique 15 minute performance of their version of the play. The Scene Project focusses on collaboration, building confidence and encouraging live performance in a professional space and manner. During the rehearsal and devising phase, we hosted a director from the Queensland Theatre Company as an Artist in Residence to facilitate a workshop with our CAX Drama students in exploring ‘We are the Mutable’ by Matthew Whittet. After the participating schools performed their work on Wednesday morning, a cast of professional actors from the Queensland Theatre Company presented a full interpretation of the play, providing our young artists and teachers new ways of making and shaping texts. The final stage of the project was a learning forum, that allowed our students to acknowledge the skill and artistry of their peers as well as engage in robust discussions about performance building. An extremely valuable experience for all involved!

Last Tuesday evening we hosted the Senior Soiree, an evening to celebrate the outstanding work of our Years 10, 11 and 12 Music Excellence students. We were very excited to host family and the PBC community to enjoy the work our Senior Music Ex students have developed in what has been a very challenging year. There were a number of performances across all year levels, showcasing a diverse range of unique talents and genres of music. Each individual performance highlighted the passion, professionalism and creativity of your young artists and thoroughly engaged the audience. We are hosting the Junior Soiree tomorrow evening in the Theatre. A fabulous way to end Term 3!

All of our Dance Excellence students are competing at the 9th Annual Star Bound Entertainers Festival this weekend. We have had a number of postponements and look forward to performing all the work the students have been preparing. All the best for this weekend PBC Dance Ex students and teachers!
