Senior Secondary Udpate

As we enter the last 2 weeks of term, Senior Secondary will go into shutdown exams for Year 12 first in Week 9 and then Years 11 and 10 in Week 10. The exam schedules have been published on the school website below. Students need to know the date, time and room of their assessment.

https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment

Term 3 assessment calendars are already available on this page.

Main points are:

  • Year 12 full shutdown all of Week 9 and 10 (6 to 17 September) for Mock exams and Applied Assessment. Specific arrangements are being organised for Tweed students.
  • Year 11 full shutdown Week 10 (13 to 17 September)
  • Year 10 full shutdown Tuesday to Friday of Week 10 (13 to 17 September)

Note that as External exams will commence at 9:00am, PBC will have the same start time for Mock exams. For consistency and due to the vertical nature of Care roll marking the following arrangements will occur:

  • All end of Term 3 exams will commence at 9:00am for Years 10 to 12
  • Senior Care Roll marking classes will not run in Weeks 9 and 10 of term
  • Period 1 teachers will read notices and give messages, and attendance details will be collated on Period 1 data

Year 12

QTAC applications

Students are reminded that they should be finalising their QTAC applications for 2022. They have all been sent emails regarding this process. Students also need to register with QTAC to receive their ATARs (the QCAA does not calculate ATARs and unless students register they will not be emailed their ATAR on 18 December).

The following resources may be useful for students:

Year 12 results

The QCAA no longer mails out certificates and results to students at the end of the year. On 18 December they will provide a digital copy of results into each students’ QCAA learning account.

All Year 12 students should by now have logged onto their QCAA learning account in the QCAA student portal. This is accessed via the myQCE website https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au/index.html.

Please check that your student has completed this. They have been reminded on many occasions and sent emails regarding this but we can see that there are still some students that have not yet registered.

The QCAA has also updated the schedule for External Exams due to the change of the Brisbane Show Holiday affecting exams. This means that Health Education, Music and Economics are scheduled as the first exams on 22 October.

To access the External Assessment timetable please visit the myQCE website: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/assessment/external-assessment/timetable

The Directions for Students, approved Equipment lists and External Assessment Resources have also been published for students on the myQCE website above and on the school webite: https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment

Students need to be aware of these documents and procedures. Class teachers will discuss this with students and we will practice for these in the coming Mock exams.

Students will also be required to bring photo ID to all External Exams and, depending on advice from the Chief Health Office, masks.

Year 11

Year 11 students will finalise Unit 2 in shutdown during Week 10 of this term 13 to 17 September.

Moving forward Year 11 students will commence the summative units for ATAR in Term 4 of this year and will have their first assessment for Unit 3 in the last week of Term 4. This will be a full shutdown in the week of 22 to 26 November .

A reminder that all students must have passed a Unit of English and Maths by the end of Unit 2. Students that do not meet this requirement will have to complete Unit 1 or 2 gain in 2022 to be eligible for the QCE.

Year 10

School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeship (SATs)

Year 10 students are reminded that they are much better off commencing a school-based apprenticeship and traineeship (SAT) in Year 10 than in Year 11. Please see Ms Shreeve in Y block for more information regarding SATs.

Exam Shutdown

Please note that Year 10 Exam Shutdown commences on Tuesday in Week 10. We wish all of our Year 10 students the best of luck in all of their exams.

Assessment policy

This policy is published on the school website. If students are absent for an exam they must contact their teacher and provide a medical certificate (allowances will be made for  border restrictions ).

A reminder that all assignments are due at 9:00am on the due date and that teachers are instructed to make a judgement on the evidence, which is available at this time. Late assignments are not accepted.

Students are reminded to back up their work via USBs, emails or cloud storage as computer malfunctions and losing assignments are not grounds for an extension.

Attendance - Every Day Counts

As our Year 10 students are rapidly approaching the non-compulsory phase of schooling (and indeed some students have already begun this phase) it is essential that students are attending each and every day of school. Our School's target is 92%. We challenge each and every student to strive to obtain this goal. What is your student's current attendance rate?
