REDS in NRL
PBC's past Sports Excellence HOD Rod Patison 'Patto' was recently asked to attend a function to celebrate past PBC alumni Darius Boyd's 300th NRL game that coincidentally was also PBC alumni Tom Dearden's 1st! Both REDS!
Friday 17 May, 25 of the Senior Rugby League Reds players travelled up to Suncorp Stadium to watch last year’s National Championship winning Captain Tom Dearden play halfback for the Brisbane Broncos as they took on the table topping Sydney Roosters. In only his third top grade game, Tommy showed exactly why at the tender age of 18 he has been promoted so quickly as he forced a line dropout with a great banana kick, put Matt Gillett through a gaping hole for him to nearly score and to make a courageous cover tackle on a rampaging Latrell Mitchell to save the game.
The boys from PBC dressed in their Reds screamed at every touch and tackle that Tommy made, and erupted as the final siren went with the Broncos victorious 15-10. At the end of the match Tommy made a Beeline to the boys in the crowd as they hung over the fence to embrace their mate. For all of us, it made us extremely Proud to be Red! A huge thanks to Coach Tim Maccan who drove the school bus and the Brisbane Broncos for providing us with the tickets to the game.
