2021 School Opinion Survey
The annual School Opinion Survey will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 30 July 2021. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 5 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2021. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.
Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. School computers/tablets will be available.

Growing Good Humans
The third podcast in our Growing Good Humans Term 2 project is from Kieran, Year 11. This a raw and honest discussion about the challenges this phenomenal young person has faced very early in his life.
Students have been engaging with these podcasts as part of their CARE curriculum this term and have explored concepts like GRATITUDE, Forgiveness and Resilience as they hear each of these stories.

Triple J Unearthed
PBC’s Year 11 Music Ex students Bonnie Kruger, Damon Perkins and Olive McCagh (Band - Tomorrow's Forecast) are going from strength to strength!
After rocking it at Creekfest last weekend and also being featured on Triple J unearthed, they have now been featured in an article of the top 5 unearthed high entries in the country this week.
Tomorrow's Forecast
School: Palm Beach Currumbin State High, QLD
For fans of: Middle Kids, Angie McMahon and/or Didirri
There's a good reason why we gave this lot a shoutout on our socials last week. Olive, Bonnie and Damo uploaded their golden indie gem Room on my Shelf on day one of the competition and they have a very good reason to be so confident.
Whilst Room on my Shelf spruiks a similar maturity and restraint to the likes of Gang Of Youths, it's underpinned with a youthful energy that's largely carried by the sweet, hopeful vocals. There's no doubt about it, Tomorrow's Forecast is looking extremely bright.

PBC Time Capsules

The hunt for a buried 1976 time capsule resumed through the holidays with the help of an excavator and Kazz Preston with her metal detector.
We had good intel on where this time capsule was buried so dug down to where we hoped to find it but had no luck. We are now sure this 1976 capsule has been dug up already and either relocated or was maybe too damaged to be of any worth. We will continue to follow leads on where it may have been relocated to.
Through ex-student feedback we now believe there may have been up to 5 time capsules over the years. The first was buried in late 1972 coinciding with the official opening. It was buried near the B Block stairs near the old school canteen. There was plenty of materials collected for this one including a copy of the Gold Coast Bulletin and student artwork. The spot is now under concrete. The second was the 1976 time capsule mentioned above, buried below the PBC letters that used to lay in front of the old admin building (currently Y block). The hole we dug did not reveal any remants of this time capsule so we are thinking it was relocated. The next one was in 1981 and was buried in front of the Science block (J Block). The area has also been concreted over. We have been told of another one buried at the base of the main flagpole in the main quad which is unfortately under artificle grass and then there is the 1996 one buried somewhere at the end of C Block (exact location unknown). If you have any memories of any of these time capsules or know what was in them please let us know. Thanks to all involved in the search.
If you are looking to recover lost jewellry or valuables you can call Kazz on 0422 560 001.
Year 7 Music Excellence

In Week 10 students in Year 7 Music Excellence had the pleasure of performing their ‘Australian Music’ assessment in the school theatre. Throughout this unit students have been exploring music that is uniquely Australian. Australian music is both steeped in tradition, and at the forefront of innovation. Congratulations to all the performers for their amazing work. Keep an eye out over the next week for a peak at some of their performances.
PBC Fundraising
Water Fountains

Our Hydrate the Reds fundraiser was a success! Over these school holidays 5 refrigerated, filtered, twin water bottle fillers were installed around the PBC campus. We hope the installation of these hydration stations will significantly reduce the number of disposable water bottles being purchased from the canteens and ending up in land fill. The school is creating messaging around recycling and hydration to be added to the panelling on these towers. The P&C team thank everyone who donated to this project, whether it was $5 or $500. Together we can make a difference in our students’ schooling experience.
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas please contact the P&C by emailing pandc@pbc-shs.eq.edu.au or come along to a meeting. They’re held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month during school term at 6:30pm in the Trade Training Centre. Our next meeting is Tuesday 20 July. We would love to see you there.
