On Friday PBC welcomed Federal Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Karen Andrews and Assistant Federal Minister of Waste Reduction and Environmental Management, Hon. Trevor Evans for a tour of the PBC Sustainability Shed, where they were given a demonstration of the industrial compost tumbler purchased with the support of a $20,000 Communities Environment Program grant in 2020. As of this week, our compost tumbler has processed in excess of 1000kg of food scraps and generated more than 100kg of compost, much of which has been used to enrich the soil in the gardens here at school.

Mrs Andrews and Mr Evans were given an overview of the sustainability program and PBC’s desire to reduce our environmental impact and implement processes that will divert waste from landfill. The Ministers also spoke to a group of sustainability-conscious students about the importance of finding ways to reduce waste and recycle resources, for both environmental and economic reasons, as resource separation, recovery and recycling will provide employment opportunities for local industry and manufacturing. Mrs Andrews and Mr Evans congratulated PBC for the steps we’ve taken on our path to become more environmentally sustainable.
