The_Sanctuary_Refuge.jpgOur Senior School Student Leaders have arranged a whole-school free dress day for Friday 7 June. The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise awareness about the impacts of family violence, and to donate much-needed funds to The Sanctuary Women, Children and Pet’s Refuge. The Sanctuary helps to empower women and children from all backgrounds; and to provide refuge, safety and support during times of homelessness, financial hardship and domestic violence. Students are encouraged to wear ‘something purple’ to show their support for this very worthy cause.

Please bring your gold coin donation!!!! Please wear something purple to show your support.

Assessment

  • Year 11 students have just completed their Unit 1 assessment. Their next assessment block is early in Term 3.
  • Assessment calendars for Term 2 and the Shutdown calendars for Year 10 and 12 are available on the school website under the curriculum tab
  • Year 10 and 12 students have their next shutdown commencing on Thursday 13 June

Year 12 QCS classes

These classes will have masterclasses and practice exams for the Writing task and Multiple Choice tests at the end of shutdown. As Year 12 QCS students make their final preparations for the QCS exam in Term 3 there will be additional support tutorials which will require students to stay at school during their allocated sport time on a Wednesday, more information about these classes will be provided later in the term.

QCAA Learning Accounts

All Year 12 students were recently issued (via their school email) instructions to log onto the Student Connect website at www.qcaa.qld.edu.au. It is important that students do this to ensure that their details such as correct spelling of their name, address and date of birth and subjects studied are correct. At the end of Year 12 it is the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority, not PBC, which will issue and send out the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and OP and Senior Statement. Students who log on by 31 August are also in the running to win an Apple MacBook Air. Any student who finds that their details are incorrect should contact Ms Ashby in Y block.

Study Skills Update: Years 10 and 11

Elevate Education Student Seminars – Tuesday 28 May

To support our students in the development of personal qualities, organisational and study skills necessary to achieve strong outcomes under the new SATE system, Elevate Education will deliver workshops to our Year 10 and 11 students next week. Elevate Education are a national leader within this area, and have worked alongside students, teachers and parents in top performing schools across the country. As our current Year 11 students attended an Elevate Workshop last year, the focus for each 70 minute session will be different depending on year level:

Year 10 – Study Sensei this workshop will enable students to learn about study techniques that can be used across all subjects to get great results. Topics include working consistently (rather than cramming), structuring and reviewing notes, creating links between topics, and standing out on assessment.

Year 11 – Ace Your Exams this workshop covers critical exam day skills – and equally as important - the preparation techniques needed to get maximum impact. Topics include time-allocation, stress management, planning and practice exams.

We look forward to our students enjoying an insightful and relevant workshop which will support them to achieve their goals in their final years of schooling.
