Senior Secondary Update

A huge thankyou to our entire PBC community for what has been a very busy and rewarding Term 2. After the disruption to school that occurred this time last year, it has been wonderful to see PBC thriving once again with academic, sporting and cultural opportunities that make our school the vibrant place it is. We acknowledge the support of all PBC families that go into ensuring our students make the most of every opportunity offered. Principal of Senior School, Alyce Bradford is departing at the end of this term for 12 months of maternity leave to welcome her second child. Stepping up to act in this position is our current Deputy Principal of Year 10 Peter Hughes.

As we wind up toward the end of Term 2, please be aware of the following impacts to classes in Week 10:

Year 10 - Full Exam Shutdown in Week 10 (Monday 21 June - Friday 25 June)

Year 11 - Normal timetabled classes all of Week 10. Sexual consent and healthy relationship lessons delivered by Queensland Health School-based Youth Health Nurses will be delivered across Tuesday and Wednesday.

Year 12 - Normal timetabled classes Monday - Wednesday. Exam shutdown across Thursday 24 June and Friday 25 June

Exam Shutdown Timetables can be found at: https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment

Athletics Carnival

The PBC Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 30 July 2021. As always, this is a huge event on the PBC calendar and is a day filled with colour, fun and a celebration of both athletic achievements and participation. Students and parents are to be reminded that this is a compulsory full day of school for all year levels. Families are encouraged to shift appointments now that impact the school day, as approved sign-outs will be kept to a minimum and will require evidence of appointment. Attendance for the full day allows our wonderful culture of participation and celebration to continue.

Year 12 Graduation & Formal

Year 12 students and parents have been sent a memorandum regarding the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony and Formal Dinner, to be held on Wednesday 17 November at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Due to capacity of the venue, traffic flow and ticketing have been impacted as per the letter. Please take a note of key deposit and final payment dates as well as more information regarding the sale of guest tickets later in Term 4.

All Year 12 students are reminded that should they not meet attendance and behavioural expectations they may not be invited to these Graduation celebrations.

Year 12 Trivia Night

While the focus of Year 12 is obviously success in our academics and preparing for the future, it is also important to spend time with friends and make lifelong memories. The Year 12 Trivia night was one such opportunity and was a huge success. Over 200 students attended, which is the greatest number in many years!  The level of effort students went to plan their team name, outfits, food and table decorations was outstanding. Big thanks to our Student Council who organised the event and Mr Johnstone and Mr Patison, our hilarious comperes for the evening. The Care Bears were the overall Trivia Winners, with the Pink Ladies declared 'Best Dressed', the Mean Girls 'Best Energy' and Gentlemen in Paris, 'Best Table Vibe'. Congrats to these teams and all students that came along and participated. Big thanks to the three teacher teams that came along also. Raffles included Vouchers from Crema Espresso, Grip Socks and the ever popular Meat Tray, kindly donated by the MeatSmiths, Elanora. BBQ sales and raffle tickets, allowed us to raise over $600 for our School Charity Macleods Refuge. Our 2021 Year 12's are making a tremendous effort to make their final year of schooling something special. Enjoy the photo gallery attached.
