Senior Secondary Update

As we begin Week 6 we take a moment to reflect on what has been a very busy start to Term 2. Students in Years 10 and 12 have received their first reports for the year with students in Year 11 last week having completed their second piece of assessment in our partial shutdown period. Year 11 reports will be distributed now in the coming fortnight. Teachers, parents and students engaged in valuable interviews to discuss progress. And most recently our Year 12 ATAR students engaged in one on one mentoring about their achievement to date and plans for the future. We thank all staff who gave up their time to take part in this mentoring process and invite any ATAR student who missed out to come to Y block for a catch up session over at any time over the next fortnight.

Year 10 Updates

In Year 10 our students will undertake PAT Maths and Reading tests between now and the beginning of next term. PAT assessments measure what students know, understand and are capable of across domains. These PAT assessments will help teachers with identifying students strengths and areas for growth. They will also be used as a set of data to inform SET Plan pathways for our Year 10's as they embark on selecting their Year 11 and 12 subjects next term. These tests will take place in regular class time, with students asked to bring their laptop along at the appropriate time.

In relation to SET Planning we remind our Year 10's that:

  • To study be eligible for an ATAR pathway in Year 11/12 students must achieve an A or B in English and Maths in Semester 1 Year 10
  • To study Science in Year 11/12 (Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Biology or Marine) students must also achieve a B in Science in Semester 1 Year 10
  • To student Maths Methods in Year 11/12 students must achieve at least a B10 in Maths in Year 10.

Assessment Calendars

Senior school assessment calendars have been published on the school website under the curriculum tab. This is a useful tool for parents and students in preparing their study timetables.

https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment

Year 10 and 12 shutdown timetables for the end of term will be published soon.

Year 11 Subject Changes

As Unit 1 has just been completed this is an appropriate time to change subjects if any students feel that they are in the wrong subject/pathway. Students should have collected a subject change from Y block and need to return it signed with parent and HOD of new subject signatures. All changes are dependent of timetable availability and on some lines there are only limited changes available.

Government Funded Certificate II in Tourism

Any Year 12 or 11 student wishing to complete this certificate at school during term 2 and 3 on Wednesdays should see Mr. McDougall or Ms McQueen as soon as possible. This course is free for students that have not used their VETis funding.

As well as improving students employment prospects this course is worth 4 QCE so is highly recommended for students that want to bank additional QCE points.
