Skills Studies and Transitions

A group of Year 12 students recently met with representatives from the Young Workers Hub. The objective was to inform young people on their rights at work. At the end of the session the students were empowered with the knowledge to protect themselves and their workmates in the workplace. The session was tailored to the group’s existing knowledge and included themes that covered the World of Work and Workplace, Health & Safety modules.

Gold Coast Changemaker Challenge

Last week a group of innovative Year 9 girls spent the day participating in the Gold Coast Changemaker Challenge. Cat from Young Change Agents introduced the students to design thinking, social entrepreneurship, prototyping and pitching. Students identified problems present in the Gold Coast community and pitched solutions to a panel of judges. Two teams from the day will pitch their ideas later this term at Southern Cross Uni alongside other schools. Congratulations to our winning teams Hydrangea House and Switch Fit

Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Class Clowns 2022

With hundreds of registered teen participants, heats and state finals took place across Australia. 13 finalists from around the nation recently took to the stage in front of a live audience and a panel of industry experts to perform stand-up, sketch and parody for their chance to be crowned the funniest teen (or teens) in the country. The standard was incredibly high.

Our own Jai Uhlmann in Year 10, despite performing from afar, most deservedly placed runner up! Due to COVID restrictions at the time, Jai was unable to fly to Melbourne but watched himself live onstage in a strange but very memorable experience.

Registrations for next year’s Class Clowns are now open.

Class Clowns is more than just a competition; it’s a gateway into comedy for hundreds of young people. Participants from Years 9-12 are given access to professional comedians as mentors, taking part in workshops and performing in front of live audiences at a local, state and national level. Head here for more info on Class Clowns.

Opportunities for students to explore and develop their comedy chops are available at PBC. After the huge success of the last two Reds Go Riot showcases with Mandy Nolan, students can join in on the action at Lunchtime LOLs on Friday lunch 1 in N11.  Bendigo Bank Tugun Community Branch's generous sponsorship over the past two years has been a tremendous support to comedy endeavours at PBC - we have some amazing comedy talent here at PBC, so why not have some fun making others laugh and learning a new skill - it takes guts but it's well worth it! Students should speak to Mrs Erin Hull ebhul0@eq.edu.au to find out more about comedy at PBC.

PBC Fundraising

Water Fountains

water_fountains.png

The PBC P&C is on a mission to install six, foot-operated, refrigerated, filtered, twin water bottle filling stations around the school for our 2600+ students to access and is asking for help.

The money these hydration stations will save our students on buying bottled water from the canteen for one year would pay for these to be installed, so we are asking you to dig deep to save our environment and help Hydrate the Reds.  The initial campaign has a target that will see 2 of the 6 stations purchased and installed as soon as possible. It will close at 5:00pm on 15 June.

Thank you  to those that have already contributed! We are currently at $3856 out of our target of $7000. We have raised enough to pay for one station but need to reach the target to install 2.

Please click on the link below to make your tax deductible donation today. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR STUDENTS’ SCHOOLING EXPERIENCE.

The PBC P&C Association have produced a fantastic 'PBC Reds' Sports Towel for our latest fundraiser. The towel features the PBC Reds logo and are a perfect size for all our students to use during their training activities. The towel has ultimate absorbency, is lightweight and quick drying and looks great! At just $25, these towels are available now at the PBC Uniform Shop.

The money raised through the sales of our Reds Towel will go towards more chilled water bubblers for our students.

PBC Chaplaincy Fundraiser

What a fantastic time was had at Saltwater last Wednesday at the Fashion Parade morning tea Fundraiser to support the PBCSHS Chaplaincy program.

Mr Capra spoke brilliantly about how Chaplaincy benefits PBC and of the incredible work that Chappy John does to support our students and staff.

Attendees loved the many tasty treats put on by Saltwater and the amazing clothes from Treasured Interiors. The Gold Coast singing sensations The Ladybirds entertained us with their exceptional singing and the guests bid loudly and enthusiastically for all the items donated for our auction. Take some time to look at all our happy snaps from the morning.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and for everyone who donated incredible items for the auction. See you in Term 3 for our next one.

Mary-Ellen Klem, Chaplaincy Committee Chair and MC of this amazing function
