Rugby League Excellence News

Week 7 was by far the biggest week for the Year 7 Rookie Reds starting last Saturday at the Tonie Carroll Cup up at Beenleigh. After some exhilarating team tries and bruising defence in the opening rounds, the boys got to experience their first taste of the Rivalry facing off against our nemesis Keebra Park in the Semi final. The performance was deserving of the Red jersey they so proudly wear grinding out a big win and qualifying for the Grand final against Marsden High. In a gripping match the boys went down by single try but walked away from it knowing that they can now compete with any of the top sides.

Back to school Monday saw Paul Dyer and Jack Reed from the Brisbane Broncos come down and run a skills clinic for the boys, to which Paul commented afterwards that the Rookie Reds showed good skill and a great willingness to learn.

Wednesday then saw our first school Cluster day which means the boys are able to learn and train all day. After reviewing our testing performances and setting our own personal and team goals, the boys learned about the tactics that are used in Rugby League Defence and Offence. Throw in a few Team Bonding Games and Lunch and it was time to join our other Rugby League teams for a whole program induction. After learning the history of the Reds and our standards from the Open As Head Coach Tim Maccan, the boys were put in teams mixed of Year 7-12s and embarked on a fun filled hour of completing the Reds Amazing Race around the school. It was wonderful to see the boys of all ages getting to know each other and working together. It is the inclusive and unselfish culture that we strive for.
