Reds Go Riot - Comedy Kids

Reds Go Riot Comedy Night #2 - Another massive success!

With our heartfelt thanks to Bendigo Bank Tugun Community Branch, PBC Leos, the P&C and Mandy Nolan, another fantastic night was had on Friday 26 February for the second instalment of Reds Go Riot - Comedy Showcase. Alongside the hilarious Mandy and the whimsical and unpredictable Dusty Rich (South Africa), 13 Reds rose to the occasion; Jett Lindsay, Alex O'Connor, Benjamin Burgess, Ebony Larman, Marnie Lamber(y)t, Jai Uhlmann, Caleb Partridge, Wade Wang, Mischa Hodson, Lucas Hein, Lucas Godwin, Brock Tighe and Bobby Smith. We even had messages from Fiona O'Loughlin, Urzila Carlson, The Nelson Twins and Gold Logie Winner Tom Gleeson - you know who he is, right?

Each set delivered original material about all the trials and tribulations (!) of being a teenager, but with students' own unique spin. The result? An audience whose faces were sore from laughter. By the end of week 5, we definitely needed that break away from the mayhem! And to top it off, we raised some good coin for Beyond Blue, total still being worked out!

Next, PBCs funny people will headed to HOTA to workshop and refine their material for Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Class Clowns competition. An annual competition by one of the world's biggest Arts Festivals, which has launched the careers of comics like Joel Creasey, Rhys Nicholson and Aaron Chen. This is an invaluable opportunity to continue the development stages of routines, make their sets punchier and really get polished - in addition to gaining stage time and experience in front of industry professionals. Last year we had two state finalists and one National Finalist. Although the 2020 National Final was spoilt by you-know-what, students again have the opportunity to perform at States in Brisbane at the Powerhouse and Nationals at The Forum Theatre in Melbourne on 31 March, be on telly and win cash! So proud of everyone involved!

Class Clowns Competition

Following the success of the Reds Go Riot Comedy Night PBCs funny people headed to HOTA to workshop and refine their material for Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Class Clowns competition. This year the kids had great fun and Marnie Lambert and Benjamin Burgess won their heat and got through to the Qld State Final at Brisbane's Powerhouse. They all did so well. Congratulations Marnie and Ben!

State Finals - Class Clowns

Three of our riotous Reds went up to Brisbane’s Powerhouse on Saturday 13 March for the Qld State Final of Class Clowns run by Melbourne International Comedy Festival, one of the world’s biggest Arts Festivals. Marnie Lambert (Y9), Benjamin Burgess (Y10) and Jai Uhlmann (Y10 - 2020 State Final Winner and National Finalist) took to the stage like pros and really owned their space getting lots of laughs with their polished material from the recent Reds Go Riot Showcase. Competing against schools from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Cairns, these guys all engaged in a rehearsal workshop with Damien Power (The Project, Tonightly, Just For Laughs) - taking onboard valuable professional feedback and running with it. We’re very proud of you all! What a fantastic achievement.

Jai will be competing in the Class Clowns National Final in Melbourne at the Forum Theatre on 31 March during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival! Best of luck Jai! We know you’ll smash it and have an absolute ball.

Class Clowns is an annual competition that runs Australia-wide and is open to students Years 9-12. For more information please feel free to contact Mrs Hull ebhul0@eq.edu.au about how to get involved in 2022.
