HPE Week Wrap-up

HPE week was a great opportunity for students and teachers to engage in a range of health, wellbeing and activity options. Thank you to the students and teachers who participated. HPE week itself incorporated the culmination of RED(M)S week, Rise Every Day Mentally Stronger. On Wednesday evening we hosted the annual parent event where conversations about mental wellbeing are facilitated. This year the focus was on opening conversation between parents and students. Our sincere thanks to the panel who provided a range of stories and advice for us to consider. The panel members were;

  • Anna Willis - PBC JS Guidance officer
  • Steve Jones - PBC SS Guidance officer
  • Brad Dixon - PBC SS Dean of Students
  • Mitch Kennedy - PBC SS Deputy Principal
  • Damian Becker - Headspace Tweed Heads
  • James Petersen - BreakingFREE
  • Andrew Thomas and Kendall Waters - parents

During the evening we were supported by Hilary Wilson (School Based Youth Health Nurse) and Wendy Wise (PBC JS Deputy Principal). We believe the amount of leadership support shown by the PBC leaders indicates the intent we as a school have in relation to student wellbeing. Personally I feel grateful to work in a school that takes student wellbeing seriously. During lunch on Thursday, students had the opportunity to have a conversation about the voices in our heads that we all experience. Our sincere thanks to Ashlee Thomas from The Secret Burden who lead the conversation with our students. Our congratulations to the Year 12 Health students for organising and conducting a successful 2021 RED(M)S project.

The final HPE week event was the inaugral touch challenge versus the Year 12 Physical Education students. Despite the short game there was plenty of excitement and banter. The end result was a draw.

As we now move into an assessment phase for senior school students, we wish them the best of luck for upcoming assessment and hope HPE week provided some enjoyment. As a faculty we are grateful to the students for their respectful and mature interactions.
