House and CARE Update

Care Term 1

VIA_classification_of_character_strengths.jpg

Students are utilising their time in Care during Term 1 to develop a greater sense of self-identity through the Who Am I? Unit. Concepts including Character Strengths, shadow sides, personal learning styles, positive self-talk and the impact of social media on self-identity are being covered.  Parents are encouraged to continue these conversations with their child at home.

Research shows that having a greater sense of self-identity and awareness correlates with enhanced wellbeing. Students that have a good understanding of themselves are less likely to look to others for their opinions and their approval. Knowing who you are allows you to live with purpose, develop healthy relationships and contributes to good emotional health.  Parents are invited to take the VIA Character Strengths Survey (www.viacharacter.org) which students will be completing in care class soon as a link between school and home. Are your strengths the same as your child’s?

Swimming Carnival

The 2021 PBC Swimming Carnival is fast approaching and the energy is palpable!

Years 7-9 will take to the pool on Tuesday 9 February, with the Seniors (Years 10-12) competing on Wednesday 10 February - 9:00am-3.05pm.

Students should have brought home their permission notes this week. These must be completed and returned asap. A reminder that our Swimming Carnival is a compulsory school day, with no scheduled classes occurring at school. Students can participate in competitive races as well as participation based fun races and events. As a major carnival on our calendar, it is a hotly contested House based competition, with 100 House Points, age champion trophies and district qualifications up for grabs. We have no doubt the students will represent their House with pride.

To ensure all students are kept busy throughout the day - the inflatable fun is back!! For $5, students can purchase a wristband, which will permit use of the giant Slip and Slides, Dunk Tank, Waterslides and inflatable obstacle courses.

Please ensure your student has applied sunscreen before leaving home and remind them to reapply throughout the day. Sunscreen will be available at the carnival.  Students must also wear a sleeved t-shirt or rash shirt and enclosed shoes to enter the pool. Students are also reminded that swimwear must be appropriate for a school event.

The Senior Student Council will be running a BBQ and the pool canteen will have other food and drink available for purchase. Students can also bring their own lunch. A water bottle is a necessity, as no doubt it will be a hot day.

Don’t forget to dress up in your House colours!
