PBC Junior Secondary welcomed Queensland Police to educate our Year 8 students on ‘Your social media account’.
Key presentation messages included:
Protect Yourself
- Before you upload THINK is it appropriate to show your parents/caregivers/grandparents? If not DO NOT UPLOAD
- Sending explicit photos has a legal side and a student can be charged
- If you OPEN UP and FORWARD you can be liable
- Future employees will ‘GOOGLE SEARCH’ your name
What is liable and a criminal offence?
You can be charged if
- you SHOW an image to another person because YOU HAVE EXPLOITED another CHILD
- you PASS on the image to another person because YOU HAVE EXPLOITED another CHILD
Forensics may take your phone for as long as is required to investigate a case and they are able to view all images (INCLUDING DELETED IMAGES)
Dangers of communicating online
- Wanting to have a number of friend LIKES on FaceBook etc
- DO NOT BE A FRIEND OF SOMEONE YOU DON’T KNOW
- Being scammed by people
- Do not tell anyone your name, where you live or your bank account details
- Do not share pictures in your school uniform
- DO NOT MEET ANYONE as they may NOT BE A 13 YEAR OLD – they could be a 30, 40, 50, 60 or 70 year old
If you have a criminal offence
- You will not be apply to apply for a government job
- You will not be able to apply for a passport and travel internationally
- You may be placed on the sex offender register
As a PBC student your reputation off school grounds can impact the good order and management of PBC.

2020 School Immunisation program – Year 7 Term 4 Week 6
The second Year 7 immunisation will be held on FRIDAY 13 NOVEMBER beginning in CARE followed by Period 1, Period 2 and Period 3.
Year 7 students will be able to view the student times at the Junior Secondary Year 7/8 D Block building on Wednesday 11 November.
Parent/Caregivers
- may contact Gold Coast Health goldcoast.health.qld.gov.au for further information
- students can visit the Year 7/8 Student Services to collect a hard copy immunisation form if required prior to the immunisation date and return the signed consent form to the Year 7 Coordinator Ms Condon
- students cannot be vaccinated without a valid consent form
- free vaccines are also available at the GC Public Health Community Clinics or other medical immunisation providers such as a GP (there may be a consultation fee for a GP)
