PBC Dance Excellence Showcase

On Tuesday 13 October, Dance Excellence students dazzled audiences at the Dance Excellence Showcase 2020. Due to COVID, students were unfortunately not able to perform at HOTA this year, however still managed to put on a spectacular and professional show in PBC’s very own Theatre. The evening ran over two shows, the first at 5:00pm and the second at 7:00pm where students were able to perform their class routines and chosen student work that reflect the highest-standard in the Dance curriculum. From Anna Tantari’s solo recount of John Lennon’s life, to the hard-hitting finale from the Moulin Rouge choreographed by the Year 12 graduating cohort, the night was a short but sweet success. Thank you to Ms Loren Skyring, Ms Madonna Hall and Miss Abby Swanborough for providing students with this opportunity despite the tough restrictions. PBC has been one of the only schools in Queensland to hold a Dance Night this year.

Visual Arts Excellence Exhibition

On Thursday 15 October the Visual Arts showcased their Excellence students. Parents and students were invited to attend an exhibition that presented the works of Years 8, 9 and 10 Visual Arts Excellence in the students’ classroom. This gave the parents not only chance to see the students work but to also to see the creative art spaces where many of these students feel at most home. The audience was wowed by the Year 8 Surrealism paintings, gob smacked by the Year 9 Pop Art oversized food and intrigued by the reflective works of Year 10.

Shock Therapy Productions – Year 11 and 12 Drama Excellence

Renowned Queensland Theatre Company, Shock Therapy Productions, has received funding from Arts Qld to create Arts online resources, filmed and made available to teachers via Vimeo. As part of this venture, Directors, Sam Foster and Hayden Jones, invited PBC Drama students to join them in creating some high quality, recorded Theatre workshops. Our students were thrilled to be working alongside these innovative, creative actors in a Characterisation Workshop.

Junior Music Excellence Concert

The Junior Music Excellence concert is a showcase of the musical talent at PBC. It gives students from Years 7, 8 and 9 the opportunity to present their work to a live audience of family, friends and the wider community. Throughout the year students have been developing their technical skills and personal expression to realise their potential as performers. With a focus on collaboration, this concert will feature an array of musical styles ranging from Chopin to Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Working Musicians Gig Night

Student’s involved in the Working Musicians Program have been busy planning and preparing for Gig Night 2020.  This very special showcase evening will be held at the Soundlounge on 21 November. Sound lounge is a highly-esteemed professional music venue and the students have had the opportunity to collaborate with Mrs Davidson, as well as the venue coordinators to bring this unique performance to life. This is a very exciting opportunity for these young artists to gain valuable experience onstage, share their gifting, as well as gain fantastic exposure as performing artists. There are a handful of tickets left over the two showings, and we would love to see you there.
