Nixon’s Hope for a Cure

You can help save Nixon's life! Nixon is only 4 years old and currently in treatment for relapsed Neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a very aggressive childhood cancer. At the end of November 2020, we need to get Nixon to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York for a vaccine treatment against Neuroblastoma.

Nixon has less than 20% chance of surviving the next 4 years without this treatment. However his survival rate will increase to up-to 80% after the vaccine treatment in New York!

The costs associated with this vaccine trial is AU$350,000. The hospital fees alone are AU$232,000. Click the link to read more about Nixon.

To raise funds we are holding a Multidraw Raffle with over $30,000 worth of prizes to be Won! Tickets are $10 each entry.

Spark their Future

To support parents and carers of young people, the department has released the evidence-based Spark their Future website. This website provides engaging, non-confronting information and support to help parents keep their child engaged with learning and education pathways.

Articles have been developed through extensive research and in collaboration with subject matter experts, including guidance officers and behaviour experts, and other agencies, such as the Queensland Family and Child Commission and the non-state schooling sectors, to develop joint articles featuring education and youth policy leaders.

Articles are targeted at parents of teenagers, when disengagement is most prominent, and upper primary students, when signs of disengagement begin to emerge.

Are you prepared for bushfire season?

200001_Bushfire_safety_School_newsletter_web_social_254x192px.JPG

Last bushfire season was one of the worst ever, so it’s important to create a bushfire survival plan so you and your loved ones are prepared if bushfires strike again.

There are simple steps you can take to prepare, like clearing gutters, reducing vegetation around your home and ensuring there is adequate access to your property.

During bushfire season, it's important to know what's going on in your area. Even if you don't live anywhere near bushland, bushfires can affect you while you're on holidays or travelling.

Check if your postcode is at risk at the QFES website.
