Students v Teachers Annual Games

Basketball

As always, the basketball matchup between the teachers and students proved to be full of excitement. Specials guest flew in from everywhere with police officer Dave and Uncle Drew Maccan making surprise appearances. The teachers had a slow start with Ella Brow and Kye Mills making them pay through easy buckets. Casey Walker’s ability to draw in the teachers on defence and find the open player was pretty to watch. As the game went on Mr “MVP” Patison and Mr Pasley started to make it rain. Mr Brown’s trick passes and Mr Johnstone’s first ever 3-pointer were some notable moments. The teachers went on to win 39-25, notching a convincing win to put the teachers comfortably in front for the week.

Football

After losing the 2019 edition of the teacher vs student match for the first time in decades the teachers were out for revenge in 2020.

After a stirring pre-game speech by Mr McCullagh the teachers started the much better of the two sides and took a well deserved lead through Mr Patison. Slowly the students worked their way back into the game and equalised through Eli Hughes and then took the lead through an Isaak Sikiric screamer. Soon after Mr Morley was denied a blatant penalty by referee Mr Capra and the students looked to be heading towards victory. Mr Patison was the man of the moment equalising with his second strike of the match. There was late drama in the 25th minute of injury time when the students were through on goal with the goal at their mercy, however Mr Moakes produced an unbelievable goal line clearance to salvage a 2-2 draw for the teachers.

Netball

The Year 12 girls once again showed their domination over the teachers in the annual Student Teacher Netball game.  Brooke Swindells and Shiphrah Lemusu led the students through the centre of the court, controlling play easily.  The somewhat confused teachers did their best to keep up, but Taira Price-Williams put on an absolute shooting master class nailing goals from all over the circle.  The students took a narrow 3 point lead into the first break, but the teachers remained hopeful. Mr Patison and Mr Morley must be commended and Mr Darnett showed that his AFL skills could be easily transferred to the netty court. The second half was a physical affair, with Bronte Dwight sending Mr Johnstone off for a HIA following a sneaky headbutt and the students consolidate the scoreboard.  Tiarah Taurimo and Phoebe Mueller turned plenty of ball over in defence and Taylah Boucher capitalised at the other end. Well done to all the Year 12 netballers. The Students and Netball were certainly the winners in 2020.

Touch Footy

The annual Student v Teacher touch football game was once again an epic battle of Game of Throne proportions. After a timid start, the Year 11 and 12 girls from the Senior Sport Ex Touch Football program stepped up and really made the teachers and referee Mr Capra work very hard. Emily Phillips scored a great try where she made Mr Russell look very slow, Malia Morgan dominated a few teachers in the touch, Shana Tudehope threw some great long balls and the team as a whole showed a lot of the resilience and skill. But in the end they couldn't combat the electric footwork of Mr Johnstone, the hole hitting of Mr Patison, the elusiveness of Mr Morley and the tenacity of Mrs McCormack with the teachers coming out winners 7-5.
