Science Club News

We know that gravity will pull an apple to the ground; and that the Big Bang Theory is more than a TV boxset – it’s one of science’s greatest discoveries that has changed the world indefinitely. Though we might not be working on cracking Einstein’s field equations, PBC’s Science Club is doing something even more special, more important; it’s paving the way for a new generation of scientists. Running a science club is an extremely rewarding experience. It provides the chance to explore and investigate topics in science not covered in your typical curriculum and enrich learning. PBC’s Science Club aims to inspire the younger science enthused generations by opening and promoting pathways in science – not to mention students get the chance to win a tuckshop voucher. “It’s been an awesome experience” said science club member Matilda Heufel. “I’ve loved getting to know new people who like the stuff that I like.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic challenging medical scientists, what better time to delve into the branch of biology. This year, students have been taking an up-close look at internal systems, with teacher lead dissections and up close looks at what makes a human. With an upcoming unit in forensics, our regular visitors are ready to roll up their sleeves, catch some suspects and see real life applications of what they have or will learn in their regular science classes.

Science club is always open to new members and encourages everyone to think like a proton and stay positive in these challenging times.
