Last Thursday night 27 February, the inaugural Growing Good Men event was held at PBC in our new Library Function room.

The event had over 260 people including Parents, staff, students and interested community members attend to ‘Start Conversations that Count’.

Our Panel of guests included Ex-World Champion Surfer Mark Occhilupo, Author and Journalist Tim Baker, Rugby League Legend John Lang and Clinical Child Psychologist Ian Nussey. Alumni Tom Herschell was our key note speaker and he spoke about his work within his organisation ‘Find Your Feet’. Tom runs workshops across Australia helping men of all ages develop their Emotional Muscle.

Tom also ran workshops for PBC boys in conjunction with the event over the course of the whole week. The workshops entitled “Challenge the Title of Man” were both challenging and rewarding for the boys who took part. One young man told us it was “the best thing I’ve done in my life”.

Special thanks to Bendigo Bank Tugun Community branch and The Suns AFL Club for their support of the event along with the students who performed, catered for the guests, provided entertainment and helped on the night.

The feedback from the week showed a clear wish that this event should occur again and that there be follow up work from Tom. We will continue to have “Conversations that Count” and help our young men grow to be better Men.
