Cross Country
Just a heads up that the School Cross Country will take place in week 1 of Term 2. It is compulsory for all Sports Excellence Students to participate. Any other students wanting to take part will need to sign up with Mrs Hart in S Block prior to the day.
Fitness Training
All students are welcome to join the Sports Excellence distance runners for endurance training on a Monday and Thursday morning – meet at the oval at 7:00am. This is a good chance for students to improve their fitness in the build up to school cross-country but also improve their basic fitness for other sports. See Mrs Hart (S block) for more info.
There is a massive range of abilities that run in the morning and the session will be adapted to meet all the different needs. Staff are also welcome.
State Triathlon Championships
Huge congratulations to Daniel Bray (Yr 9) and Aspen Anderson (Yr 8) who both competed in the State Triathlon championships recently in Hervey Bay. Both performing exceptionally well. Aspen finished first in the 14-15 girls race - amazing!
Aspen went on to win the event at the Youth National Series in Davenport, Tasmania! Fantastic effort Aspen.
Soccer
Thank you to the Brisbane Roar for providing a professional development session to our Soccer Sports Excellence Coaches. Our coaches were educated in the Brisbane Roar’s game model and playing style. Our PBC coaches look forward to implementing this information into our training programs.
On Thursday 27 February we took the PBC year 7 boys Soccer sport excellence squad up to the Brisbane Roar training facility in Logan.
Students toured the training facility, watched the Roar men’s training session, spoke to Brisbane Roar Academy Coaches and met the A league coaches, Robbie Fowler(Liverpool legend and England international) and Tony Grant(Manchester City.) The was an extremely valuable experience for these young players with an opportunity to meet the A League players including club captain Tom Aldred. Thanks to Warren Moon(Brisbane Roar Academy General Manager) for his continued support of the Sport Excellence Premier League Schools for organising this day.
AFL - Year 7 Schools of Excellence Gala Day Champions
Our Year 7 AFL team had their first opportunity to represent the PBC REDS at their recent gala day involving all the schools of excellence in south east Queensland.
The boys went through the day undefeated in their four pool games defeating Park Ridge, Pacific Pines, Narangba Valley and Woodcrest. This qualified the team for the Grand Final against Helensvale. The boys played a very disciplined, free flowing game plan and went on to become convincing winners 8-3-51 to 2-1-13.
The boys should be publicly congratulated for their behaviour throughout the day and the pride they took in representing the school. The group’s dynamics of being team orientated was commendable. Also a huge shout out to the parents who not only attended the day but assisted throughout the day as team managers. Your help was most welcome.
