Sports Excellence News

Surf League

Congratulations to the 70 PBC students that competed at the University of Queensland Schools State Surf League Championships. It was a great event with students competing against schools from across Queensland. The location change to Kurrawa didn’t stop the REDS from dominating and taking home the state shield for the 3rd year in a row. Thanks to the organisers, parents and athletes for all their involvement. We look forward to defending our title again next year.

Track

Earlier in March Aspen Anderson (Year 7) and Sam McAuliffe (Year 11) competed at the State Schools Triathlon in Hervey Bay. Aspen competed in the 13-14 girls race and came away with an excellent SILVER medal! Sam competed in the open men’s event and came overall 6th position. A fantastic achievement by both students. Aspen and Sam will now go on to represent Queensland at the National Schools Triathlon Championship in April. Good luck to both of you.

Following these achievements, Daniel along with a chosen few has been selected to represent Australia in Kayaking at the highest level for the sport. Daniel will represent Australia as the youngest member of the Australian team at the Olympic Hopes, competing in Slovakia in September. The squad includes 4 other males of various ages from U18 and younger, in addition to 9 females including PBC’s Chaise Richardson (Year 11) in the U16 women's.

Daniel, Chaise and Carter Brodhurst-Hill (Year 12) will represent Australia as members of the National team at the Asia Pacific Sprint Cup in New Zealand in May.

Alumni Tom, Jackson and Jordan are all aiming for a spot on the 2020 Toyoko Olympics Team. If all successful in the next few months of racing this will be exciting to have three potential PBC alumni competing at the Olympics just in kayaking.
