Executive Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Capra_Chris_Copy_.jpgThe weather has certainly made school life interesting this term.  From violent storms to heavy rain, the facilities team have been busy with contractors and their own work in keeping the school operational.  In times of extreme weather, the school will continue to operate.  Whilst we may not have classes as normal, we will continue to provide a supervised, safe environment.

At the time of writing, our Swimming Carnivals have been moved to this Tuesday and Wednesday.  There is a lot to do for all the students including, swimming events, games and activities.  We hope to see as many students there as possible as this is one of the few opportunities of the year for the students to just have fun with their peers.

As previously mentioned the school, in discussion with the P&C and School Council, has streamlined report cards in taking away the comments (which were taken from a generic comment bank) and adding the level of achievement distribution graph.  Parents are encouraged to meet with the teachers to have a face to face discussion about a student’s progress.  Attached is the Information Statement for Parents about communication with teachers regarding student academic progress.

School Council Elections

As an Independent Public School our School Council plays an integral role in the governance of our school.  It is important that every parent understands the work the council will undertake in this year as it will have significant impact on the strategic direction of our school. The school council is responsible for providing strategic advice to the principal and overseeing the governance of the school. Training is provided to new members.

School council members serve a two year tenure and we would like to acknowledge the following members who have recently completed their time on the council:

  • Sally Farrell – Teaching Representative
  • Tom Pasley – Teaching Representative
  • Tanya Forbes – Parent Representative
  • Nicola Jones – Parent Representative
  • Erin Woods – Student Representative

Accordingly, vacancies exist for:

  • 2 x Parent Representatives
  • 2 x Teaching Representatives
  • 1 - 2 Student Representatives

This year the school council will be responsible for providing advice about the implementation of PBC's 2018-2021 Strategic Plan. Members of the council will play an essential role not only in shaping this plan but keeping key members of the school's leadership to account on the key agendas and strategies.

If you are interested in being involved in this work, I encourage you to nominate for the school council. I also encourage those staff members who are not interested in joining the council to have their say in who represents them by voting in the school council elections.

Details of the nomination and election process are as follows:

  • All self-nominations close on 3 March 2020
  • School Council election day for Staff and Student representatives will be 18 March 2020  -  7:30am – 9:00am in TTC Bar / Dining
  • School Council election day for Parent representative will be 17 March 2020 4:30pm – 6:00pm in TTC I01.

Instructions and forms for self-nominations are available on our school website under Our Community / School Council tab.

We look forward to receiving your nominations.
