Academic Excellence News

In March this year, PBC competed at the Model United Nations Assembly. PBC entered two teams of Year 11 and Year 12 students who put their hands up to spend a very long Saturday arguing the pros and cons of UN resolutions alongside 30 other teams from across the district at the Tweed Community Centre.

Every year, Rotary organises and hosts MUNA. Schools adopt a country, dress in their national costume, attend the flag ceremony and then debate the merit of a range of resolutions from that country’s perspective, chaired by the Secretary General. Teams are expected to research the physical, political and cultural aspects of their country. They must consider the arguments for and against the resolution from other nations and dispute or support their claims.

This year, students debated the merits of:

  • Regulating international migration
  • Regulating International trade
  • Protection of global climate for the present and future generations of humankind

PBC were a stand out due to their ability to work as a team, respond to the statements made by other nations, and use of philosophy and reason to add weight to their arguments. Robbie James earned runner up for best speaker and Syria came third overall.
