The Langer Cup Winners

Recently the Senior Rugby League boys (Year 12-10) were lucky enough to be visited by the Brisbane Broncos to present the Alan Langer Trophy for winning the South East QLD Championship earlier in the year. Paul Dwyer and Red Alumni Darius Boyd not only presented the trophy to captains Toby Sexton and Jed Edwards but delivered an inspiring message to the boys about “Success in Life” not just on the footy field. Darius was particularly honest and heartfelt as he told of his own journey from PBC to the NRL and some of the personal challenges that he has had to overcome along the way. He was also adamant that his time as a RED were some of his most cherished, and that you need to enjoy every moment you are here.

The importance of Health (Physical and Mental), Character, and Drive to succeed were reinforced in order to live a fulfilled life and that happiness was not always a guaranteed regular event. That is why developing resilience and coping skills are so essential and why sport has so many great life lessons within it. The boys were captivated listeners, and in the conversations that followed over the next week, the common theme was they were “Proud to be Red” and would always look back fondly on the mateship and culture of their time here.
