Student Voice on the Vision for Inclusive Education at PBC

Recently students in all year levels were asked to identify key areas the school should focus on in the next four years to become a more inclusive school.

The principles they chose from were listed below:

Students indicated accessible curriculum, giving parents/students a voice and key transitions as the three most important areas to work strategically on. These principles will be developed into a vision statement to drive efforts in the next four years.

ORAL HEALTH STUDY COMPLETED

Thank you from QCOHS Research Team

The QCOHS team would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the school, parents and students who participated in The Queensland Child Oral Health Study (QCOHS). Your contribution in the form of an oral examination and completion of a study questionnaire has been invaluable and will help us gain a better understanding of the oral health of children in Queensland. Your family’s involvement will make a substantial contribution that will continue to benefit Queensland and Australian children for many years.

FLEXIBLE LEARNING SPACE

A big shout out to the P&C for funding the purchase of the flexible furniture for six classroom spaces. This flexible learning classroom design will assist in accommodating various teaching and learning styles for a more accessible learning environment. The students already love the idea of being provided with the ability to move and change their seating to improve their focus in the classroom and teachers will also be able to easily adapt the classroom setup to accommodate different teaching styles and activities.

STUDENT VOICE to REVIEW OPTIMA CREDITS MENU

Recently Junior Secondary students were surveyed to review the Optima credits menu. The menu shows rewards that students can receive if they earn and save Optima slips or postcards from staff. 365 students responded to the survey, indicating elements of the credits menu they preferred (see graph below). They were also asked to give suggestions of further inclusions. 233 students gave suggestions of which there are many that will be included in the updated menu.
