Positive Culture for Learning
"Be respectful" is one of the three elements of the PBC OPTIMA Code. Across the school, students can tell you that at this school, we are to 'Be safe, be respectful, be a learner.' Yet our behaviour data tells us that disrespect is the most frequently recorded behavious issue at PBC.
PBC is a 'PCL' school - we are practicing a Positive Culture for Learning. This body of work is led by a comittee of leaders, teacher aides, welfare support and parents. One core philiosophy of PCL that positive behavious needs to be actively taught, just like any other skill, and frequently acknowledged. This week, CARE teachers across the school are teaching about respect, and how it is displayed through our language choices and beahviour. The process of teaching includes discussion and role modelling. As young people move out into the world, respectful beahviour will help them as employees, community members and citizens. The PCL committee will be seeking feedback from teachers on their lessons, and hope to see improvements in respectful behaviour across the term.
