Executive Principal's Update

From the Executive Principal,

Kern_Chris.jpg

The last four weeks have been especially busy at our school.  In Week 3 of the term we undertook our full school review where a team of five current and past Principals held approximately 200 interviews to provide quality feedback and next steps to inform our Strategic Plan 2025-28.  Each Queensland school undertakes a review every four years.  The review team recognised the commitment of our staff to ensuring high level education as well as the extensive range of opportunities within the school and through our wide range of community partners.

ANZAC Day was a very special time.  The service at our school was extremely respectful with wonderful performances by our band and fabulously led by our student leaders and supported by our cadets.  The dawn service at Currumbin was an honour to attend and represent our school.  Our students, particularly school captains Emma Suttle and Zane With were outstanding and the choir performed beautifully.

Last week our Parent Teacher interviews connected many of you with your child’s teachers.  This process should still be continuing now.  Have you considered the following actions?  It won’t be too long before the end of semester assessment is on us.

  1. Review and Reflect: Consider the feedback given about your child’s strengths, areas for improvement, and any concerns the teacher mentioned. Reflect on what was discussed and how it aligns with your own observations.
  2. Discuss with Your Child: Have a discussion with your child about the meeting. Share positive feedback and areas where they can improve in a supportive manner.
  3. Develop an Action Plan: Based on the discussion with the teacher, develop a plan with your child to address any issues or support your child’s strengths. This might include setting up a study schedule, seeking additional resources, or arranging for extra help if needed.
  4. Communicate with the Teacher: If there were specific concerns or actions suggested during the meeting, follow up with the teacher.
  5. Provide Support at Home: Ensure your child has a conducive environment for studying at home. This includes having a quiet space, necessary supplies, and a regular routine.

Best wishes,

Chris Kern
Executive Principal
