Junior Secondary Update

TRANSITION DAY

On Monday the 4th of December we welcomed over 430 enrolled Year 7 (2024) students to the PBC community. Transition Day supports the Year 7s as they move from their Primary School to Secondary School. On Transition Day, students were assigned to their core classes and experienced lessons with their teachers.  We thank the numerous parents who attended this Transition Day, as we understand that the key to a successful education is the relationship built between the family and the school.

TERM 4 REPORTS

Term 4 reports will be emailed home on Friday the 8th of December. Please be sure to share the report with your child, so that they can receive important feedback on their work this year and set goals for 2024.

2024 CLASSES

The 2024 timetable has been constructed to provide maximum opportunities for students across PBC to study courses of choice, in our large and diverse school. Year 9 core classes are driven by electives that have been chosen and there is little flexibility.  Students will have been placed in four of the six electives they listed. Both will be visible on the timetable but only two will be studied in semester one.

Parents should be aware that, with the exception of Academic Excellence classes, their child will be with a different group of students next year, and prepare to support them through this change. Coping with changes such as these are important for building resilience – an important quality for success in life.  While there is no opportunity to swap classes due to friendships, the usual range of support will be available to all students and their parents to help them through this change.

We welcome back our Year 7s on Monday January 22nd 2024 and Year 8, 9 and 10 on Tuesday January 23rd 2024.

Away for the day

From the beginning of 2024, all Queensland state school students will have their mobile phones switched off and ‘away for the day’.

'Away for the day' will support our school to maintain a strong focus on educational achievement, and student wellbeing and engagement by:

  • providing optimal learning and teaching environments
  • encouraging increased face-to-face social interactions between students
  • promoting the health and wellbeing of students through increased physical activity at break times
  • reducing the potential for students to be exposed to the negative impacts of the digital world, resulting from unsafe or inappropriate technology use.

GOOD LUCK YEAR 9

Farewell to our Year 9 cohort who are transitioning to the Senior Secondary Phase of Learning. Our very best wishes for continued success! A special mention to Ms Stacy Hooper who has been with this cohort over the last 2 years. For senior school this group of students will be led by Mr Ryan Jesser in 2024.

ABW

Australian Business Week (ABW) was held in Week 9. Based on feedback from past students, ABW is the most challenging and rewarding week of their school years.

Academic Excellence Year 9 students experience a week where they form a company, create an IT product, design profit and loss forecasts based on simulated results, brand their venture, market their venture, and work as team to create a spoken presentation to shareholders, a trade display and a television advertisement.

Year 9 Dance News

From HOY Stacy Hooper:

What a total VIBE the Year 9 Semi-Formal was!

We celebrated moving from Junior to Senior Secondary in style with a two-course meal at the Currumbin RSL.

Thanks to the parents, teachers and venue, the night ran smoothly.

The 2023 Year 9s were the true stars of the night though, first hitting the dance floor before dinner was even served!

It was such a fun and happy night that made for wonderful memories.
