Junior Secondary Update

As Term 3 draws to a close we wish to acknowledge the efforts of all Junior Secondary students across the range of disciplines our school offers. Congratulations to all students who have represented PBC in the Arts, sports, academically and via community service opportunities. For Year 7 students we look forward to celebrating those individuals specifically at our Term 4 OPTIMA Awards and for all students our major celebration is our end of year Junior Secondary Awards Night. To all of our students – thank you for your dedication and commitment to our school and for grabbing the opportunities that exist with both hands, we are very proud of the representatives you have become.

We have been trialling some new processes this term and so if as a parent you have any feedback you are welcome to contact us via the parent support email to let us know how you think those changes have gone from your perspective. We also have a student opinion email so if you hear your child voices an opinion or having an idea about how something could be changed or improved or just to help us understand our students better, please encourage them to drop us a line. Both these emails are directed to relevant staff and should receive a response within 48 hours.

I would also like to acknowledge all the staff who support our Years 7-9 students either socially, academically or with their wellbeing. It really does take a village to raise a child and I hope that you appreciate as much as I do the lengths that staff go to add to the great support that you give your own child. In particular can I thank Mrs Julia Hoy who has been working with us this year, Julia is moving back to primary and has won a position at Miami SS. We wish her all the best and are richer for the experience of having worked with her. This position has been advertised and we hope to be announcing a new DP at the start of next term. Mrs Wendy Wise will be picking up the Year 8 cohort as they would have been moving to work with her next year anyway, so she will be having a handover with Mrs Hoy this week.

Year 9 Work Experience

We wish our Year 9 students all the best as they embark on a week of work experience across a number of workplaces and industries for Week 10. This opportunity offers students a range of skills in a variety of areas and bodes them well for future employment and industry experience. Good luck to all students and thanks to those workplaces who have supported this program. We have had a larger number of students getting their paperwork in on time and fully participating this year. Well done for working with us on this process which will have your child covered should anything go wrong on work experience.

Sign Out Processes

Currently the only sign out processes are either write a note and have your child hand this in to student services or phone the main switch to get a message to student services. We are investigating whether there are more convenient methods for parents, however in the meantime can you please help us and Tegan who is the only worker in our Student Services area manage the demands of our large cohort.

Year 7 Camp

In week 2 of Term 4, a majority of our year 7s will be participating in an action packed 3-day camp at YMCA Camp Warrawee. Students will be involved in a variety of exhilarating outdoor activities which will teach teamwork, problem solving, leadership and resilience. Please ensure that all medical forms are returned to A block student services by end of term so that details can be uploaded to the camp portal. Outstanding balance on invoices are now overdue. Please make final payment by direct deposit or in person at finance (D block).

For students not attending camp school attendance is compulsory as classes will be running as per the students’ timetable. There will be no new learning, however, students will be involved in a variety of literacy and numeracy activities during this time. Regular classes will recommence from Thursday 12 October.

Junior Secondary Academic Reports

Congratulations to our junior students on another great term of effort and behaviour.  Parents/Carers will be emailed the term 3 progress report on the last day of term.
