Students v Teachers 2023

BballTvSAug2023.jpg

In what is always a spectacle of raw teacher talent, the students vs teachers Basketball was hyped up to be a battle. Some pre-game discussion between the sides ensured it was going to be a hard fought game. Both teams started out slow with some early misses but it didn’t take long for the students to start getting easy buckets. However, Mr Tippett was there to make sure they didn’t get far ahead and a few easy baskets from the teachers gave them the lead. Jayden Flood and Roan Moloney soon caught fire, hitting multiple 3-pointers each and pushing the game to be basket for basket. Some cool heads and patience allowed the teachers to gain the lead back with an nice bucket around the rim. The students tried so hard but couldn’t get clutch up and the teachers walked away with a tough win 24-22. Congratulations to all involved!

Growing Good Humans - Conversations that Count

Growing Good Humans had an amazing start to term 3 with two events to celebrate NAIDOC week 2023 ‘For our Elders’.  In week 1 ‘The last daughter’ film was screened in the PBC Theatre to a crowd of parents, students, staff and community members.  The Last Daughter is a documentary feature film about Aunty Brenda Matthew’s journey to uncover the truth about her past and reconcile the two sides of her family.  It was an emotional evening that sparked conversations about where Australia is moving in the future with its history.

The following week Growing Good Humans hosted ‘Conversations that Count – Conversations that Heal’.  Our local community members Aunty Joyce Summers, Selwyn Apanui, Josh Morris-Langton, Jimilla Dix-Hudson were joined by Aunty Brenda Matthews from ‘The Last Daughter’.  The panel lead discussions on their experiences as First Nations People in the 21st Century.  They provided insights into their connection to country, modern cultural practices and the ongoing effects of generational trauma and history.  Audience members had the opportunity to ask questions and build their understanding of how to have a conversation that counts.
